Pinpoint Test I: The Headlamps Do Not Illuminate When the Wipers are On
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81, Front Wipers and Washers for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation
The Smart Junction Box (SJB) sends a 12-voltage reference signal on circuit CRW01 (WH) to the wiper motor module in order to monitor the status of the wipers. When the headlamp control switch in the AUTOLAMP position and wipers are active, the wiper motor module will pull the voltage reference signal low. Within 10 seconds, the SJB (Smart Junction Box) will activate the headlamps.
- DTC B2008 (Wipers On Signal Circuit Short to Ground)- Sets when a short to ground is detected on the wiper motor status input circuit.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Windshield wiper motor
- SJB (Smart Junction Box)
PINPOINT TEST I : THE HEADLAMPS DO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE WIPERS ARE ON
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
I1 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW01 (WH) FOR VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between windshield wiper motor C125-2, circuit CRW01 (WH), harness side and ground.
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to I2.
I2 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW01 (WH) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280F.
- Measure the resistance between SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280F-8, circuit CRW01 (WH), harness side and windshield wiper motor C125-2, circuit CRW01 (WH); and between SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280F-8, circuit CRW01 (WH), harness side and ground.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB (Smart Junction Box) and windshield wiper motor and greater than 10,000 ohms between the SJB (Smart Junction Box) and ground?
Yes
GO to I3.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
I3 CHECK FOR CORRECT MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB (Smart Junction Box) connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- Connect all the SJB (Smart Junction Box) connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new SJB (Smart Junction Box). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the SJB (Smart Junction Box) self-test.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
