Pinpoint Test D: The Wipers Stay On Continuously - Rear

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Set 81, Wipers and Washers for schematic and connector information. Electrical Diagrams

Normal Operation

Under normal operation, the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) receives a ground input from the wiper/washer switch through circuit 91S-KA35 (BK/BU) to activate the rear wipers. The GEM (Generic Electronic Module) supplies voltage to the rear wiper motors through circuit 32-KA28 (WH/RD).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Wiper/washer switch

- GEM (Generic Electronic Module)

PINPOINT TEST D : THE WIPERS STAY ON CONTINUOUSLY - REAR

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

D1 CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH INPUT

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: GEM (Generic Electronic Module) C201C.

- Measure the resistance between GEM (Generic Electronic Module) C201C-14, circuit 91S-KA35 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
GO to D3.

No
GO to D2.

D2 CHECK CIRCUIT 91S-KA35 (BK/BU) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Disconnect: Wiper/Washer Switch C2081.

- Measure the resistance between GEM (Generic Electronic Module) C201C-14, circuit 91S-KA35 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

D3 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-KA28 (WH/RD) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: GEM (Generic Electronic Module) C201A.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between GEM (Generic Electronic Module) C201A-5, circuit 32-KA28 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.

Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to D4.

D4 CHECK FOR CORRECT GEM (Generic Electronic Module) OPERATION

- Disconnect the GEM (Generic Electronic Module) electrical connectors.

- Check for:
- corrosion.

- pushed-out pins.

- Connect the GEM (Generic Electronic Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.

- Reconnect all the wiper system components.

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new GEM (Generic Electronic Module). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
