Pinpoint Test A: The Entire Audio System is Inoperative
Normal Operation
With the key in RUN or ACC, the audio system can be powered on. When the ON button is pressed on the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM), a wake-up signal is sent to the Audio Control Module (ACM), the Front Display Interface Module (FDIM), and the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) (if equipped).
When a button is pressed on the FCIM, there is a corresponding display on the FDIM. The FDIM displays both base audio system information, SYNC information (if equipped), and satellite radio information. The information is sent to the FDIM via the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN).
- DTC U0184 (Lost Communication With Radio [ACM]) - set by the FCIM when it does not receive status messages from the ACM for greater than 5 seconds. When the ACM status message is lost, FCIM button functionality is lost, rendering the system completely inoperative.
- DTC U0255 (Lost Communication With Front Controls Interface Module) - set by the ACM when it does not receive status messages from the FCIM for greater than 5 seconds. When the FCIM status message is lost, FCIM button functionality is lost. This results in the audio system remaining in the mode it was in prior to the failure and not recognizing any FCIM button presses.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Communication network concern
- FCIM
- ACM
PINPOINT TEST A: THE ENTIRE AUDIO SYSTEM IS INOPERATIVE
-------------------------------------------------
A1 CHECK FOR SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATION
- Carry out the network test with the scan tool.
- Do either the ACM or the FCIM fail to communicate with the scan tool?
Yes
REFER to Information Bus to diagnose the no communication condition for the appropriate module.
No
GO to A2.
-------------------------------------------------
A2 CHECK FOR ACM DTC U0140
- Using the scan tool, clear the ACM continuous DTCs.
- Disconnect the scan tool.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
- Connect the scan tool and retrieve the ACM continuous DTCs.
- Is DTC U0140 present?
Yes
Go To Pinpoint Test N. Pinpoint Test N: DTC U0140 or DTC U0140:00
No
GO to A3.
-------------------------------------------------
A3 CARRY OUT THE SPEAKER WALK-AROUND TEST
- Carry out the speaker walk-around test using the scan tool. Inspection and Verification
- Is the speaker walk-around test successful?
Yes
GO to A4.
No
GO to A5.
-------------------------------------------------
A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT FCIM OPERATION
- Disconnect the FCIM connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the FCIM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new FCIM. REFER to Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM). TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, GO to A5.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
-------------------------------------------------
A5 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the ACM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the ACM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new ACM. REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM) Audio Control Module (ACM). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
