Pinpoint Test AJ: The Key-In-Ignition Chime Is Inoperative
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 60, Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
When the key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder, the key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch) closes and routes a voltage signal to the Instrument Cluster (IC) through circuit 1414 (LG/VT). The voltage signal indicates to the IC the key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder. If the IC detects that the ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position with the key inserted in the ignition lock cylinder and the driver door is ajar, the key-in-ignition warning chime (located in the IC) sounds.
- DTC B1353 (Ignition Key-In Chime Circuit Open) - a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the IC if the IC detects a run/start input on circuit 489 (PK/BK) with no key-in-ignition input on circuit 1414 (LG/VT).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)
- IC
PINPOINT TEST AJ: THE KEY-IN-IGNITION CHIME IS INOPERATIVE
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
-------------------------------------------------
AJ1 CHECK FOR DRIVER DOOR AJAR INPUT TO THE SJB
- Check the operation of the interior lamps while opening and closing the driver door.
- Do the interior lamps operate correctly?
Yes
GO to AJ2.
No
REFER to Courtesy Lamp. Testing and Inspection
-------------------------------------------------
AJ2 CHECK THE IC CHIME FUNCTION
- Ignition OFF.
- Turn the parking lamps on.
- Open the driver door.
- Does the headlamps on warning chime sound?
Yes
GO to AJ3.
No
GO to AJ5.
-------------------------------------------------
AJ3 CHECK THE INPUT TO THE IC FOR DTC B1353
- Disconnect: IC C220.
- Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
- Measure the voltage between the IC C220-13, circuit 1414 (LG/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to AJ5.
No
GO to AJ4.
-------------------------------------------------
AJ4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1414 (LG/VT) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.
- Measure the resistance between the IC C220-13, circuit 1414 (LG/VT), harness side and the ignition switch C250-5, circuit 1414 (LG/VT), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new ignition switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
-------------------------------------------------
AJ5 CHECK FOR CORRECT IC OPERATION
- Disconnect the IC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
