Switch Condition Signal Circuit:
Circuit Description:
The engine control module (ECM) receives a signal whenever the following occurs: (1) the accelerator pedal is depressed (indicating that the throttle lever is in the off idle position (2) if the vehicle is equipped with air conditioning; the A/C switch is depressed with the blower speed selector switch in any position except "OFF" (indicating that A/C operation has been requested (3) or if the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transaxle; the manual selector lever is in the "R," "D," "2," or "L" positions (indicating that the transaxle is in another gear besides park or neutral).
DTC 51 indicates that the above mentioned systems are functioning normally. If DTC 51 is not indicated when the accelerator pedal is depressed, A/C is ON or with the manual selector lever out of "P," or "N," with DLC terminals "TE2" and "TE1" jumpered to ground a fault is present. If DTC 51 is indicated without the accelerator pedal being depressed, without the A/C switch or blower switch ON or with the manual selector lever in "P" or "N," a fault is also present.
Test Description:
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. This determines if the systems are functioning normally in the test diagnostic mode.
2. This checks to see if the TP sensor circuit is operating normally.
3. This checks for a short to ground in the A/C circuit, an open in the PNP switch circuit, an open in the TP sensor circuit or for a faulty ECM or for a faulty A/C amplifier.
4. This checks for a short to ground in the TP sensor circuit or for a faulty TP sensor or ECM.
5. This checks for a short to ground in the PNP switch circuit.
6. This determines whether the system is functioning normally or if there is a problem in the A/C circuit.
7. This determines if the A/C amplifier or if the ECM is faulty.
