SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 83-24
DTC 83-24:
No Signal From the Front Passenger's Weight Sensor (front outer side) (4-door)
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
- These SWS DTCs are cleared by turning the ignition switch to LOCK(0).
1. Raise the front passenger's seat all the way up.
2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 83-24 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures.�
5. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SWS DTC CHECK.
Is an SWS DTC also indicated?
YES -
- DTC 24-11: Short to power in the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) power circuit; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
- DTC 24-12: Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) power circuit. Go to step 6.
- DTC 24-13: Open in the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) output circuit. Go to step 16.
- DTC 24-14: Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) output circuit. Go to step 27.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures.�
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Disconnect the ODS unit harness 3P connector (A) from the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side).
8. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
10. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SWS DTC CHECK.
Is SWS DTC 24-12 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side); replace the front passenger's seat frame including all four front passenger's weight sensors Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Replacement (4-Door), then clear the DTC.�
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
12. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement (4-door).
13. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit.
14. Measure the resistance between body ground and ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 5. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 15.
NO -
Short to ground in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
15. Measure the resistance between ODS unit 18P connector terminals No. 5 and No. 15. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC.�
NO -
Short to another wire in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
16. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
17. Swap the connections between the front outer side front passenger's weight sensor and the rear outer side sensor.
18. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
19. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
20. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SWS DTC CHECK.
Is SWS DTC 24-13 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 21.
NO -
Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side); replace the front passenger's seat frame including all front passenger's weight sensors Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Replacement (4-Door), then clear the DTC.�
21. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
22. Disconnect the ODS unit harness 3P connector (A) from the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side), and disconnect the ODS unit harness 3P connector (B) from the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side).
23. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement (4-door).
24. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit.
25. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
26. Measure the voltage between body ground and ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 10. There should be less than 0.2 V.
Is the voltage as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC.�
NO -
Short to power in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
27. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
28. Disconnect the ODS unit harness 3P connector (A) from the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side).
29. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
30. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
31. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SWS DTC CHECK.
Is SWS DTC 24-14 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 32.
NO -
Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side); replace the front passenger's seat frame including all four front passenger's weight sensors Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Replacement (4-Door), then clear the DTC.�
32. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
33. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement (4-door).
34. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit.
35. Measure the resistance between body ground and ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 10. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 36.
NO -
Short to ground in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
36. Measure the resistance between ODS unit 18P connector terminals No. 10 and No. 15. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC.�
NO -
Short to another wire in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
