Blower Power Transistor Test
Removal
1. Glove Box
1. Remove the bolts (A).
2. Remove the glove box (A).
2. Passenger's Heater Duct
1. Remove the passenger's heater duct (A).
3. Driver's Dashboard Lower Cover
1. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (A).
4. Dashboard Subdisplay Visor
1. Remove the dashboard subdisplay visor (A).
5. Center Lower Panel
1. Remove the center lower panel (A).
NOTE: Take care not to scratch the center console panel or the related parts.
6. Audio Unit Assembly
NOTE:
* Lay a workshop towel under the parts when working on them to protect the face panel from scratches or other damage.
* Do not work in a dusty or dirty place.
* Discharge static electricity from your body before and during the work.
* Do not touch the circuit board(s) with your bare hands.
* Do not work with dirty hands.
* Do not touch the terminal connector of the flat plate cable with your bare hands (If you have touched it, wipe it off thoroughly.).
* Eject the CD before disconnecting the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD player's load mechanism.
* If you are replacing the audio unit, write down the audio presets (if possible), and enter them into the new audio unit.
1. Remove the bolts (A).
2. Disconnect the connectors, then pull out the audio unit (A).
7. Climate Control Panel Assembly
1. Pull the climate control panel assembly (A).
2. Disconnect the connectors (B), and the aspirator hose (C).
8. Power Transistor
1. Disconnect the connector (A).
2. Remove the power transistor (B).
Test
1. Power Transistor - Test
2-door
4-door
1. Measure the resistance between terminals No. 3 (2-door) or No. 2 (4-door) and No. 4 of the power transistor. It should be about 1.5 kOhms.
* If the resistance is within the specifications, go to step 3.
* If the resistance is not within the specifications, replace the power transistor.
NOTE: Also check the blower motor. Power transistor failure can be caused by a defective blower motor.
2. Reconnect the power transistor connector.
3. Connect climate control unit connector terminals No. 12 and No. 17 with a jumper wire.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
5. Check that the blower motor runs.
* If the blower motor does not run, replace the power transistor.
NOTE: A faulty blower motor can cause the power transistor to fail. Before replacing the power transistor, check the blower motor for binding, and replace it if necessary.
* If the blower motor runs, the power transistor is OK.
