Headliner: Service and Repair




Headliner Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required

- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service Precautions before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the headliner, the dashboard, or the other interior trim.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

1. Remove the front seat belt lower anchor bolt from the seat Front Seat Removal / Installation.

2. Slide both front seats all the way back, and recline the seat-back fully.

3. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure Procedures, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

4. Remove these items:

- Kick panel, passenger's side
- A-pillar trims, both sides
- B-pillar upper/lower trims, both sides
- Quarter pillar trims, both sides
- Rear seat belts, both sides
- Sunvisors and holders, both sides Service and Repair
- Grab handles, four places Service and Repair
- Driver's dashboard lower cover Driver's Dashboard Lower Cover Removal / Installation
- Glove box Service and Repair
- Ceiling light Service and Repair

5. Remove the roof console (A).

1. Remove the lenses (B).

2. Remove the screws (C), then remove the front individual map light (D).

3. Disconnect the front individual map light connector (E), the moonroof switch connector (F), and the navigation microphone connector or Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) front microphone connector (G) (for some models).

4. Remove the screws (H).

5. Pull down the front side of the console, and release the hooks (I).





6. With automatic dimming mirror: Remove the rearview mirror harness cover. Disconnect the connector from the rearview mirror, and release the wire harness from the rearview mirror harness cover base Rearview Mirror Replacement.

7. If necessary, remove the roof console screw grommet (A) by pinching out the hooks (B).





8. If necessary, release the hooks (C) by prying out the map light clip (D), then remove the clip.

9. Remove the roof wire harness (A) by detaching the harness clips (B) from the driver's side A-pillar (C).






10. Remove the antenna lead (A) by detaching the harness clips (B) from the passenger's side A-pillar (C).






11. From under the driver's dash, remove the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box mounting bolt, and release the hook (A), then lower the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box (B).






12. From under the driver's dash, disconnect the roof wire harness connector(s) (A). Detach the harness clip (B), and release the harness holder (C).






13. From under the passenger's dash, disconnect and detach the antenna lead connector(s) (A), and detach the harness clip (B).






14. For some models: From the right quarter pillar area, disconnect the antenna lead connector (A) and the GPS subharness connector (B), and detach the harness clip (C).






15. From the roof console opening, disconnect the moonroof subharness connector (A), and detach the harness clip (B).






16. With the help of an assistant, lower the headliner (A).

1. Remove the front door opening seals (B), the rear door opening seals (C), and the tailgate weatherstrip (D) from each roof area.

2. Release the rear clips (E) by pulling down the rear area of the headliner.

3. Release the front clips (F), the magnets (G), and the Velcro fasteners (H) by pulling down the moonroof opening edge of the headliner.





17. With the help of an assistant, pull the headliner (A) with the roof wire harness (B) and the antenna lead (C) out through the tailgate opening.

NOTE: Do not bend the headliner. Bending the headliner will crease and damage it.






18. If necessary, remove the cushion tapes (A, B, C) fastening the roof wire harness (D) and the antenna lead (E) to the headliner (F), then remove them from the headliner.










19. If necessary, remove the front grab handle bracket (A) and the rear grab handle bracket (B). Take care not to damage the side curtain airbag.

1. Remove the bolts (C, D, E).

2. Detach the clips (F).

3. Release the tabs (G) holding the grab handle bracket to the side curtain airbag.

20. Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the headliner, along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment Service and Repair.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the headliner and all removed trim. Replace any pieces with the following damage:
- Any creases or tears in the headliner (A)
- Any cracks or breakages in the grab handle (B)
- Any damages around the grab handle holes (C) or the sunvisor holes (D) in the headliner
- Any cracks in the sunvisor stay base (E)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket cover (F)
- Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shaft (G)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor base (H)
- Any cracks or breakages in the vanity mirror base (I)
- Any fastener bases (J), the Velcro fasteners (K), the magnets (L), or the clip bases (M) which have come off the headliner

- When installing the grab handle, push on the handle against the bracket (N) until the clips (O) snap into place securely.
- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- Replace the removed cushion tapes with new pieces.
- Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the body.
- Make sure the headliner overlaps the trim pieces correctly.
- When reinstalling the headliner through the tailgate opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.
- If the map light clips are removed, replace them with new ones.
- If the roof console screw grommets are removed or if they are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.

- Push the clips and the hooks into place securely.
- Reinstall the roof console (P) as following procedures:
- Connect the each roof wire harness connector (Q).
- Install the roof console screw grommets (R) on the console with the screws.
- Set the rear hooks (S), and fit the grommets into the holes in the body, then push on the console until the grommets snap into place securely.
