PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY:

REASSEMBLY

1. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER






(a) Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance.
Standard clearance:
Less than 0.35 mm (0.014 in.)
If the clearance is greater than the standard, replace the shim with one of the following sizes.










(b) Using pliers, install the parking brake shoe and shim with a new C-washer.
2. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE GUIDE PLATE






(a) Apply adhesive to the threads of the parking brake shoe guide plate set bolt.
Adhesive:
Toyota Genuine adhesive 1334, Three Bond 1344 or equivalent.






(b) Install the parking brake shoe guide plate with the parking brake shoe guide plate set bolt.
Torque: 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf)
3. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE






(a) Apply high temperature grease to the areas of the backing plate which make contact with the parking brake shoe.
4. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING NO.2 PIN (for 2WD)






(a) Install the parking brake shoe hold down spring No.2 pin to the backing plate.
5. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) Installation

6. CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD) Installation

7. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING NO.1 PIN (for 4WD)






(a) Install the parking brake shoe hold down spring No.1 pin to the backing plate.
8. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) Installation

9. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for 4WD) Installation

10. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR (for 4WD) Installation

11. CONNECT PARKING BRAKE NO.3 CABLE ASSEMBLY Installation

12. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE NO.2 SHOE ASSEMBLY






(a) Using needle-nose pliers, connect the parking brake No.3 cable assembly to the parking brake shoe lever.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the parking brake No.3 cable assembly.





(b) Install the parking brake No.2 shoe assembly with the parking brake shoe hold down spring No.2 pin, parking brake shoe hold down spring No.2 cup, parking brake shoe hold down spring and parking brake shoe hold down spring No.1 cup.
13. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET






(a) Apply high temperature grease to the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.






(b) Install the parking brake shoe return tension No.2 spring to the parking brake No.1 shoe assembly and parking brake No.2 shoe assembly.
(c) Install the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set to the parking brake No.1 shoe assembly and parking brake No.2 shoe assembly.
14. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE NO.1 SHOE ASSEMBLY






(a) Install the parking brake No.1 shoe assembly with the parking brake shoe hold down spring No.1 pin, parking brake shoe hold down spring No.2 cup, parking brake shoe hold down spring and parking brake shoe hold down spring No.1 cup.
15. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT
(a) Install the parking brake shoe strut and parking brake shoe strut compression spring to the parking brake No.1 and No.2 parking brake shoe assemblies.






(b) Using needle-nose pliers, install the 2 parking brake shoe return tension No.1 springs.
HINT: Be sure to install the front side spring before the rear side.

16. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION
(a) Make sure that all the parts are installed properly.
If necessary, reinstall properly.





17. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS Testing and Inspection

18. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT Testing and Inspection

19. INSTALL REAR DISC
(a) Align the matchmarks on the rear disc and rear axle hub.
20. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE Adjustments

21. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY






(a) Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 78 Nm (795 kgf-cm, 58 ft-lbf)
NOTE: Do not twist the flexible hose.

22. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)
23. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL Adjustments

24. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL Adjustments

25. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
Test Mode Procedure
