STEERING COLUMN: POWER TILT AND POWER TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN SYSTEM: B2611: Telescopic Position Sensor or Telescopic Motor Circuit Malfunction

DTC B2611 - Telescopic Position Sensor or Telescopic Motor Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

Telescopic motor is operated by the power voltage supplied from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU and makes the steering column slide forward and rearward. Telescopic position sensor (hall IC) in the telescopic motor detects the sliding position of the forward and rearward direction of the steering column and outputs the signal to the CPU in response to that sliding amount.

HINT: Limit positions can be confirmed on the screen of Techstream.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Connect Techstream to DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON and push Techstream main switch ON.
(c) Select the item "Telesco Operation" in the Active Test, and operate it with Techstream.
(d) Check that the steering column contracts (extends) when the Active Test carried out.
OK:
Steering column contracts (extends).
OK -- INSPECT MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (VCE TERMINAL VOLTAGE)
NG -- Continue to next step.
2. INSPECT MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (TEM+, TEM- TERMINAL VOLTAGE)

(a) Remove multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU with the connectors being connected.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Measure the voltage between terminal TEM+ and GND, TEM- and GND of the ECU connector.
Standard voltage:

NG -- CHECK ACTUATOR POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY W/MOTOR

(a) Disconnect the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU connector.
(b) Connect the battery positive (+) terminal to terminal TEM+ and the battery negative (-) terminal to terminal TEM- of the telescopic motor connector. Then confirm that steering column contracts.
Standard:
Steering column contracts.

(c) Connect the battery negative (-) terminal to terminal TEM+ and the battery positive (+) terminal to terminal TEM- of the telescopic motor connector. Then confirm that steering column extends.
Standard:
Steering column extends.
NG -- REPLACE TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY W/MOTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. INSPECT MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (VCE TERMINAL VOLTAGE)

(a) Measure the voltage between terminals VCE and E2 of the ECU connector.
Standard voltage:
8 to 16 V
NG -- REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. INSPECT TELESCOPIC POSITION SENSOR (TES TERMINAL OF ECU INPUT VOLTAGE)

(a) Measure the voltage between terminals TES and E2 of the ECU connector.
Standard voltage:
Pulse HI
8 to 16 V
Pulse LOW
0 V
OK -- REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU
NG -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - TELESCOPIC POSITION SENSOR)
(a) Check for open and short circuit in the harness and the connector between the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU and the telescopic motor and position sensor Electronic Circuit Inspection Procedure.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY W/MOTOR
