P0606
2UZ-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P0606: ECM / PCM Processor
DTC P0606 - ECM / PCM Processor
DESCRIPTION
The ECM continuously monitors its internal processors (CPUs), heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) transistors. This self-check ensures that the ECM is functioning properly. This is diagnosed by internal "mirroring" of the main and sub CPUs to detect processor errors. If outputs from the processors deviate from the standard, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC immediately.
NOTE:
An exhaust gas leak generates noise in the HO2S output. The ECM may interpret this as an HO2S transistor malfunction and set P0606.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(e) Read the DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
Result:
B -- CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
A -- Continue to next step.
2. INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 OR P0158)
(a) Inspect the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flowchart.
HINT:
- If P0136 or P0156 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first P0136. Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
- If P0137 or P0157 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first P0136. Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
- If P0138 or P0158 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first P0136. Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
- If DTC P0606 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).
NEXT -- INSPECT ECM
3. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
(a) Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.
(b) Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.
If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair it and proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN". If no exhaust gas leaks are present proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN".
HINT:
- If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
- If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
4. PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
(a) Clear the DTC DTC Check / Clear.
(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(c) Start the engine.
(d) Turn the Techstream on.
(e) Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature becomes 75°C (167°F) or more.
(f) Perform the drive pattern.
(1) Accelerate the vehicle to 80 km/h (50 mph) and stop the vehicle.
(2) Drive the vehicle between 60 and 80 km/h (35 and 50 mph) for 5 minutes.
(g) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(h) Read the DTCs.
Result:
C -- INSPECT ECM
B -- REPLACE ECM
A -- Continue to next step.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
6. INSPECT ECM
(a) Clear the DTC Removal.
(b) Stop the engine and wait for 30 minutes.
(c) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(d) Start the engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes.
(e) Turn the Techstream on.
(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(g) Check the DTCs.
Result:
B -- REPLACE ECM
A -- END
