HI-beam Headlight does not Illuminate

DESCRIPTION

The main body ECU receives light control switch and dimmer switch information signals from the headlight dimmer switch, and illuminates the headlight high beam.

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH)
(a) Using the Techstream, read the Data List.

Main Body

OK:
When the headlight dimmer switch operation is performed, the result will be the same as above.
NG -- INSPECT HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (HEADLIGHT)
(a) Using the Techstream, perform the Active Test.

Main Body

OK:
Headlight hi beam turns on/off.
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT RELAY (HEAD HI) - BATTERY)
OK -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU
3. INSPECT HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH

(a) Remove the headlight dimmer switch Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPLACE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH - MAIN BODY ECU AND BODY GROUND)

(a) Disconnect the E14 switch connector.
(b) Disconnect the E1, E2 and 2D ECU connectors.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU
5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT RELAY (HEAD HI) - BATTERY)

(a) Remove the headlight relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY - BODY GROUND)

(a) Remove the DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DRL NO. 4 RELAY - BODY GROUND)

(a) Remove the DRL No. 4 relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
8. INSPECT HEADLIGHT RELAY (HEAD HI)

(a) Remove the headlight relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPLACE HEADLIGHT RELAY (HEAD HI)
OK -- Continue to next step.
9. INSPECT DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY

(a) Remove the DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPLACE DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY
OK -- Continue to next step.
10. INSPECT DRL NO. 4 RELAY

(a) Remove the DRL No. 4 relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPLACE DRL NO. 4 RELAY
OK -- Continue to next step.
11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEAD HI RELAY - DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY AND DRL NO. 4 RELAY)

(a) Remove the headlight relay, DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay and DRL No. 4 relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEAD HI RELAY - DRL NO. 4 RELAY AND BODY GROUND)

(a) Remove the headlight relay and DRL No. 4 relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DRL NO. 3 OR RR A/C RELAY - DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RESISTOR)

(a) Remove the DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RESISTOR - BODY GROUND)

(a) Remove the DRL No. 3 or RR A/C relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
15. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEAD HI RELAY - MAIN BODY ECU)

(a) Remove the headlight relay from the engine room relay block.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

- *1: for U.S.A.
- *2: for except U.S.A.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
16. CHECK MAIN BODY ECU
(a) Temporarily replace the main body ECU with a new or normally functioning one.
(b) Check that the headlight high beam illuminates.
OK:
Headlight high beam illuminates
NG -- REPLACE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RESISTOR
OK -- END (MAIN BODY ECU IS DEFECTIVE)
