Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Testing and Inspection

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: SPIRAL CABLE: INSPECTION

1. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE (w/ Steering Heater)

(a) If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the spiral cable with a new one:

Scratches, cracks, dents or chips on the connector or the spiral cable.

(b) Check the spiral cable.





(1) Set the spiral cable to the center position Installation.

(2) Measure the resistance between each terminal of the spiral cable according to the table below.

(3) After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise and measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Then rotate the spiral cable 5 times counterclockwise and measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable.

(4) After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times counterclockwise. Then while rotating the spiral cable 5 times clockwise, measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NOTICE:
As the spiral cable may break, do not rotate the spiral cable more than the specified amount.

If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable.

2. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE (w/o Steering Heater)

(a) If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the spiral cable with a new one:

Scratches, cracks, dents or chips on the connector or the spiral cable.

(b) Check the spiral cable.





(1) Set the spiral cable to the center position Installation.

(2) Measure the resistance between each terminal of the spiral cable according to the table below.

(3) After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise and measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Then rotate the spiral cable 5 times counterclockwise and measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable.

(4) After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times counterclockwise. Then while rotating the spiral cable 5 times clockwise, measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

NOTICE:
As the spiral cable may break, do not rotate the spiral cable more than the specified amount.

If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable.
