Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Testing and Inspection
SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: SPIRAL CABLE: INSPECTION
1. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE
(a) Visually check for defects with the spiral cable removed from the vehicle.
(1) The defects are as follows:
* Scratches on the spiral cable
* Small cracks the spiral cable
* Dents on the spiral cable
* Chips on the spiral cable
* Cracks or other damage to the connector
OK:
No defects are found.
HINT
If any of the defects is found, replace the spiral cable with a new one.
(b) Check the spiral cable.
(1) Set the spiral cable to the center position.
(2) Measure the resistance between each terminal of the spiral cable according to the table below.
(3) After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise, and measure the resistance as shown. Then rotate the spiral cable 5 times counterclockwise, and measure the resistance as shown.
Standard Resistance:
(4) After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise. Then while rotating the spiral cable 5 times counterclockwise, measure the resistance as shown.
Standard Resistance:

If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable.
NOTICE:
As the spiral cable may break, do not rotate the spiral cable more than the specified amount.
