Engine Coolant Temperature Receiver Gauge Malfunction
METER / GAUGE / DISPLAY: METER / GAUGE SYSTEM: Engine Coolant Temperature Receiver Gauge Malfunction
Engine Coolant Temperature Receiver Gauge Malfunction
DESCRIPTION
In this circuit, the meter CPU receives engine coolant temperature signals from the ECM using the CAN and BEAN lines. The meter CPU displays engine coolant temperature that is calculated based on the data received from the ECM.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT:If there is an open or short in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit, the ECM will store the DTCs. Perform troubleshooting of the SFI System P0115 (for 2UR-GSE)).
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
(a) Check if CAN communication DTC is output Diagnosis System.
Result
B -- GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
(a) Check if Multiplex communication DTC is output Diagnosis System.
Result
B -- GO TO MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
A -- Continue to next step.
3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (WATER TEMPERATURE METER OPERATION)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
(e) Check the operation by referring to the values in the table below.
Combination Meter
OK:
Engine coolant temperature receiver gauge indication is normal.
NG -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (COOLANT TEMP)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.
(e) Check the values by referring to the values in the table below.
Engine and ECT
OK:
Engine coolant temperature value displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as actual engine coolant temperature.
NG -- GO TO SFI SYSTEM (for 2UR-GSE)
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER
(a) Replace the combination meter with a new or a known good one Removal.
OK:
The operation of the combination meter returns to normal.
NG -- REPLACE ECM (for 2UR-GSE)
OK -- END
