Speedometer Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The No. 1 meter ECU receives vehicle speed signals from the skid control ECU via the CAN line. The vehicle speed sensor detects the voltage that varies according to the vehicle speed. The skid control ECU supplies power to the vehicle speed sensor. The skid control ECU detects vehicle speed signals based on the pulses of the voltage.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
(a) Check for the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

B -- Go to CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
A -- Continue to next step.
2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM (SPEEDOMETER)
(a) Operate the intelligent tester or Techstream according to the display and select "ACTIVE TEST" or "Active Test".

OK:
Needle indication is normal.
NG -- REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED)
(a) Operate the intelligent tester or Techstream according to the display and select "DATA LIST" or "Data List".
(1) Intelligent tester

Vehicle speed displayed on tester is almost the same as actual vehicle speed measured using speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer).
NG -- READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM (WHEEL SPEED SENSOR)
OK -- REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU
4. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM (WHEEL SPEED SENSOR)
(a) Operate the intelligent tester or Techstream according to the display and select "DATA LIST" or "Data List".
