Remove, Install Hydraulic Valve Clearance Compensation Elements






Remove, Installing
1 Remove camshafts (77, 78)
2 Use a rubber suction cup (2) to remove the compensation element (1) of the relevant cylinder

CAUTION:
- Compensation elements with a weight of 67 g (1st version) must not be installed on engines with conical valve spring (installed as of 10.94 with red color coding).
- Do not use a magnet!
- The friction surface of the compensating element would otherwise be magnetized. This may cause minute iron swarf to gather which can result in damage to the compensating element and cam.


NOTE: Re-install compensation elements at the same place if they have not been replaced.

Inspecting
3 Inspect basic bore of hydraulic valve clearance compensation elements.
- Inspect surface of basic bore for scores and damage, replace cylinder head according to condition.

4 Install in the reverse order.
