DTC 14
DTC 14: TPMS Abnormality (Vehicle Speed Signal)Vehicle Speed Signal Input Circuit:
CIRCUIT OPERATION
The TPMS receiver receives the vehicle speed signal from the powertrain control module.
TPMS DTC SET CONDITION
DTC 14 will be set if the TPMS receiver does not receive vehicle speed signal of 5 km/h (3 mph) or more during driving. At the same time this DTC is set, the TPMS warning light flashes. TPMS receiver senses the vehicle's driving state by a driving G sensor inside the TPMS transmitter.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (THE MOST LIKELY CAUSES FOR THIS DTC TO SET ARE:)
^ Malfunction of the output shaft speed sensor
^ Damaged wiring harness or connector
^ Malfunction of the powertrain control module
^ Malfunction of the TPMS receiver
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
^ MB991958: Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III Sub Assembly)
^ MB991824: Vehicle Communication Interface (V.C.I.)
^ MB991827: M.U.T.-III USB Cable
^ MB991910: M.U.T.-III Main Harness A
STEP 1. Check A/T diagnostic trouble code.
Q: Is A/T DTC 23 (output shaft speed sensor system) set?
YES: Carry out troubleshooting for A/T DTC 23 (output shaft speed sensor system).
NO: Go to Step 2.
STEP 2. Check the following connectors.
^ Powertrain control module connector B-19
^ Intermediate connector C-29
^ TPMS receiver connector C-133
Check the connectors for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Q: Are the connectors and terminals in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 3.
NO: Repair it. Then go to Step 6.
STEP 3. Check the following harness wire.
The wire between powertrain control module connector B-19 (terminal 14) and TPMS receiver connector C-133 (terminal 3)
Q: Is the harness wire damaged?
YES: Repair or replace it. Then go to Step 6.
NO: Go to Step 4.
STEP 4. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list item 04: VSS (Vehicle Speed Signal).
Drive the vehicle at 30 km/h (19 mph) or more, and compare the value shown on scan tool MB991958 with the speedometer in the combination meter.
Q: Does the vehicle speed shown on scan tool MB991958 correspond to that on the speedometer?
YES: It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent. Go to Step 6.
NO: Replace the TPMS receiver. Then execute "Tire Pressure Sensor ID Registration". Then go to Step 5.
STEP 5. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list item 04: VSS (Vehicle Speed Signal).
CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool MB991958.
1. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector.
2. Start the engine.
3. Drive the vehicle at 30 km/h (19 mph), and check that the vehicle speed is displayed on scan tool MB991958.
Q: Is the vehicle speed displayed on scan tool MB991958?
YES: Go to Step 6.
NO: Replace the powertrain control module. Then go to Step 6.
STEP 6. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Q: Does diagnostic trouble code 14 reset?
YES: Repeat the troubleshooting from Step 1.
NO: The procedure is complete.
