Engine: Service and Repair

1. Relieve fuel pressure.
2. Scribe alignment marks on hood for installation reference, then remove hood.
3. Disconnect battery leads, then drain engine coolant.
4. Remove strut tower cross brace.
5. Disconnect windshield washer, radiator and heater supply hoses.
6. Disconnect starter electrical connector and wiring.
7. Disconnect main engine harness and battery harness electrical connectors at relay center.
8. Remove accessory drive belt.
9. Remove power steering pump and position aside.
10. Remove air intake duct and air cleaner assembly.
11. Remove throttle cable from linkage bracket, then other applicable cables.
12. Disconnect electrical connectors from the following:
a. MAT sensor.
b. Throttle position switch.
c. Idle air control valve.
d. Oxygen sensor.
e. A/C compressor.
f. Oil pressure switch.
g. Power steering cutout switch.
h. Vehicle speed sensor.
i. Low oil level sensor.
13. Remove ignition coil ground strap attaching screws.
14. Disconnect fuel feed and return lines from fuel rail and pressure regulator.
15. Disconnect throttle body canister hoses.
16. Disconnect brake booster and heater control hoses from engine vacuum connection.
17. Disconnect cruise control servo vacuum hoses.
18. Raise and support vehicle.
19. Remove exhaust pipe from right manifold.
20. Install suitable engine lifting equipment, then raise engine slightly.
21. Remove A/C compressor and position aside.
22. Disconnect engine oil cooler lines, if equipped.
23. Remove front engine mount.
24. Remove right front engine to transaxle bracket.
25. Using suitable jack stands, support transaxle, then remove engine to transaxle attaching bolts.
26. Remove flywheel cover.
27. Scribe flywheel installation alignment mark, then remove torque converter to flywheel attaching bolts.
28. Lower vehicle and remove torque axis engine mount.
29. Separate engine from transaxle, then remove engine assembly.
30. Reverse procedure to install.
