Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection

Description:

Installation Procedure

Tools Required
^ J 34730-1 Fuel Pressure Gauge
^ J 34730-75 Fuel Rail Adapter

1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Release.
2. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connection.
3. Disconnect the PCV hose from the Air Cleaner (ACL).
4. Disconnect the one bolt and the wing nut from the Air Cleaner (ACL) to the Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI) unit.
5. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) from the Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI) unit.
6. Disconnect the one clamp and the fuel feed hose from the throttle body. Use a shop towel to catch any remaining fuel that may leak.
7. Install the fuel rail adapter J 34730-75 to the TBI unit.
8. Install the fuel pressure gauge J 34730-1 and the fuel rail adapter J 34730-75 between the fuel feed hose and the throttle body. Clamp securely to ensure that no leaks occur.
9. Connect the PCV hose to the Air Cleaner (ACL).
10. Connect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
11. Install the Air Cleaner (ACL) to the TBI unit.
12. Secure the Air Cleaner (ACL) with the one bolt and the wing nut.
13. Start the engine.
14. Run the engine and idle at normal operating temperature.
15. Check the fuel pressure as follows:
^ Engine idling - 90-140 kPa (13-20 psi).
^ Engine not running and the ignition switch in the ON position (fuel pump running) - 160-207 kPa (23-30 psi).
^ Within one minute with engine not running and the ignition switch in the ON position - pressure should hold at about 90 kPa (13 psi).

NOTE: If the fuel pressure is not within the specification, Refer to Powertrain On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check. Testing and Inspection

Removal Procedure
1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Release Procedure.
2. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
6. Remove the fuel pressure gauge J 34730-1 and the fuel rail adapter J 34730-75 from the TBI unit. Use a shop towel to catch any remaining fuel that may leak.
7. Connect the fuel feed hose to the throttle body and secure with the one clamp.
8. Connect the PCV hose to the Air Cleaner (ACL).
9. Connect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
10. Install the Air Cleaner (ACL) to the TB unit.
11. Secure the Air Cleaner (ACL) with the one bolt and the wing nut. Tighten the ACL bracket bolt to 10 Nm (7.5 lb. ft.).
12. Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable. Tighten the negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 5.5 Nm (4 lb. ft.).
13. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
