Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the steering column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement) .
4. Remove the steering wheel. Refer toSteering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement) .
5. Remove the headlamp/turn signal switch from the SIR coil module assembly. Refer to Turn Signal Switch Replacement (Service and Repair) .
6. Remove the wiper washer switch from the SIR coil module assembly. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement (Service and Repair) .




7. Disconnect the connectors (1) from (2)
8. Place some tape around the steering wheel module coil before removing from steering column.




9. Remove the SIR coil assembly to steering wheel retaining screws (1).
10. Remove the SIR coil assembly.



Installation Procedure


Notice: The new SIR coil assembly will be centered. Improper alignment of the SIR coil assembly may damage the unit, causing an inflatable restraint malfunction.


Important: If the existing SIR coil assembly is to be reinstalled, the SIR coil assembly must be centred.


1. Install the SIR coil assembly.




2. Connect the SIR coil assembly connector (1) .




3. Install the SIR coil assembly to steering column retaining screws (1).
4. Install the wipers/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement (Service and Repair) .
5. Install the headlamp/turn signal switch from the SIR coil module assembly. Refer to Turn Signal Switch Replacement (Service and Repair) .
6. Install steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement) .
7. Install the steering wheel. Refer toSteering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement) .
8. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module to the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement (Service and Repair) .
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair) .
10. Calibrate the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Angle Sensor Centering (Procedures) .
