Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit/System Description

The radio generates the audible warning through the left speaker. The radio receives audible warning requests via the serial data circuit from the instrument panel cluster (IPC) or the body control module (BCM).

Circuit/System Testing

Important: Before performing this diagnostics, make sure no indicators are illuminated after the IPC performs the displays test. If any indicators are illuminated after the bulb test, perform the indicator diagnostics before this diagnostic.

Chime Always On
1. Ignition ON, headlamp switch OFF, verify the scan tool Headlamp Off Switch parameter is Active.

If not Active, refer to Headlamps Malfunction (V6) (Headlamps Malfunction (V6))Headlamps Malfunction (V8) (Headlamps Malfunction (V8)) .

2. Ignition ON, park lamp switch OFF, verify the scan tool Park Lamps Switch parameter is Off.

If not Off, refer to Park, License, and/or Tail Lamps Malfunction (Park, License, and/or Tail Lamps Malfunction) .

3. Ignition ON, doors closed, verify the scan tool Door Ajar Switch parameter is Door Closed.

If not Door Closed, refer to Courtesy Lamps Malfunction (Courtesy Lamps Malfunction) .

4. Ignition OFF, key out of the ignition, verify the scan tool Key In Ignition parameter is Inactive.

If not Inactive, test the key in ignition switch signal circuit terminal D for a short to ground. If the circuits tests normal, test or replace the ignition switch.

Chime Inoperative
1. Ignition ON, radio ON, adjust the radio balance and fade to the left front speaker.

If the speaker does not operate properly, refer to Speakers Inoperative - One or More (Speakers Inoperative - One or More) .

2. Ignition ON, verify that the scan tool Key In Ignition Status parameter is Key In.

If not Key In, test the signal circuit terminal D and the ground circuit terminal E for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the ignition switch.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.

* Ignition and Start Switch Replacement (Service and Repair)
* Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for the BCM, or radio replacement, setup and programming
