Preliminary work

Preliminary work - starter

Disconnect battery. -> 2706IN Work instructions after disconnecting the battery 2706IN00 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery

Remove rear wall cover. -> 555919 Removing and installing rear wall cover - section on "Removing" 555919 Removing and Installing Rear Wall Cover

Remove centre intake-air distributor with throttle valve. -> 244620 Removing and installing intake-air distributor - section on "Removing" Removal and Replacement

Removing starter

WARNING

If the battery has not been disconnected, battery voltage will be present at the leads during removal and installation.

- Risk of injury from burns and electric shock.
- Damage to electrical leads, control units and components due to accidental contact of leads with ground.

-> Disconnect both battery terminals and cover the + terminal.

1. Unscrew fastening nuts for electric line, terminal 30 (M8) and terminal 50 (M6), on solenoid switch, remove the electric lines -1, 2- and place them to one side.





Removing starter

2. Undo top fastening screw -3-.
3. Unscrew lower fastening screw -4- through the rear wall cover opening using a ratchet spanner and an extra long extension.

4. Lift starter out of the bracket.

Installing starter

WARNING

If the battery has not been disconnected, battery voltage will be present at the leads during removal and installation.

- Risk of injury from burns and electric shock.
- Damage to electrical leads, control units and components due to accidental contact of leads with ground.

-> Disconnect both battery terminals and cover the + terminal.

1. Insert starter into the bracket from above and install with the upper fastening screw -3-. => Tightening torque: 33 ftlb.

2. Screw down the lower fastening screw -4- through the tailgate. => Tightening torque: 33 ftlb.
3. Position electrical leads on the starter and tighten with fastening nuts -1, 2-. => Tightening torque: 13 ftlb. => Tightening torque: 5 ftlb.

Subsequent work

Subsequent work - starter

Install centre intake-air distributor with throttle valve. -> 244620 Removing and reinstalling intake-air distributor - section on "Installing" Removal and Replacement

Install rear wall cover. -> 555919 Removing and installing rear wall cover - section on "Installing" 555919 Removing and Installing Rear Wall Cover

Connect the battery and carry out "Work instructions after disconnecting the battery". -> 2706IN Work instructions after disconnecting the battery 2706IN00 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery

Install the engine-compartment lid. -> 557819 Removing and installing engine compartment lid - section on "Installing" 557819 Removing and Installing Engine Compartment Lid
