Preliminary work

1. Drain the cooling system. => 193817 Draining and filling with coolant on DFI engines (includes bleeding) - section on "Draining"
2. Remove intake pipe in front of throttle valve and drive belt. => 243519 Removing and installing air box for throttle housing on DFI engines (intake pipes upstream of throttle valve) - section on "Removing"

Information

- To ease removal, spray the pulley from the rear side with an anti-corrosion agent.

1. Loosen the three fastening screws on the coolant pump pulley. -arrows- Block the pulley with a holder Nr.38 or brace Nr.193 if necessary or if the belt drive is removed.

2. Loosen drive belt around the water pump. For details, see => 137819 Removing and installing drive belt on 4.8-litre DFI engines - section on "Removing"

NOTICE

Incorrect handling of pulley

- Risk of damage to pulley

-> The pulley is sensitive to impact. Do not prise off the pulley with a screwdriver.
-> Do not re-use a damaged pulley.

3. Unscrew the three loosened fastening screws on the pulley => Belt pulley and remove the pulley.

4. Unscrew the fastening screws => Coolant pump mounting -3- on the coolant pump and remove the pump. => Remove coolant pump.

Remove coolant pump.

5. If the pump is stuck, loosen it by gently tapping with a plastic hammer. => Loosening coolant pump with a plastic hammer

Installing coolant pump

1. Clean sealing faces. Fit coolant pump with new seal.

2. Tighten fastening screws.

NOTICE

Incorrect handling of pulley

- Risk of damage to pulley

-> The pulley is sensitive to impact. Do not prise off the pulley with a screwdriver.
-> Do not re-use a damaged pulley.

3. Fit the pulley on the coolant pump. Screw in the three fastening screws by hand.
4. Tighten the three fastening screws on the coolant pump pulley. Block the pulley with a holder Nr.38 if necessary.=> Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Fit drive belt. => 137819 Removing and installing drive belt on 4.8-litre DFI engines - section on "Installing"
2. Install intake manifold. => 243519 Removing and installing air box for throttle housing on DFI engines (intake pipes upstream of throttle valve) - section on "Installing"
3. Fill and bleed the cooling system according to instructions. => 193817 Draining and filling with coolant on DFI engines (includes bleeding) - section on "Filling"
