Overview of cardan shaft

Information

- To unscrew the cardan shaft bolts, a second fitter should sit in the vehicle and block the drive train by actuating the foot brake.

- The colour markings, match points -arrows- on the cardan shaft and on the all-wheel final drive flange must be aligned. This will neutralise the residual imbalance of the components.

- Apply another colour marking if necessary.

1. Remove cardan shaft at the transfer gear -arrow-.

Information

- To unscrew the cardan shaft bolts, a second fitter should sit in the vehicle and block the drive train by actuating the foot brake.

- The colour markings, match points -arrows- on the cardan shaft and on the all-wheel final drive flange must be aligned. This will neutralise the residual imbalance of the components.

- Apply another colour marking if necessary.

2. Remove cardan shaft at the all-wheel final drive => Front cardan shaft on all-wheel final drive.

3. Support transmission with material 00000 and secure with a retaining strap.
4. Unscrew fastening screws securing exhaust system to cross member -centre arrow- and threaded joint securing support to body -right arrow-.

5. Unscrew threaded joint securing transmission cross member to body -A-.

6. Unscrew two screws on the cross member -B- at the transfer gear holder and remove transmission cross member.

Information

If the cardan shaft is to remain removed, the transmission cross-member must be refitted.

7. Remove cardan shaft between ATF pan and exhaust system support -arrow-.

Information

- The transmission cross member must be disassembled before the cardan shaft is installed.

1. Support transmission with transmission jack.
2. Install cardan shaft between ATF pan and exhaust system support.

Information

- Screws which are tightened with a torque angle must be replaced with new ones.

3. Screw in new transmission cross member screws -B- on transfer gear holder. => Initial tightening: 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) => Final tightening: 90 angular °

4. Screw in new cross member screws on body -A-. => Initial tightening: 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) => Final tightening: 90 angular °
5. Secure exhaust system to transmission cross member -centre arrow- and body -outer arrow-. Observe tightening torques for exhaust system => 260119 Removing and installing exhaust system

Information

6. Mount cardan shaft with new screws => Front cardan shaft to all-wheel final drive on the all-wheel final drive. => Initial tightening: 30 Nm (22 ftlb.) => Final tightening: 90 angular °

7. Mount cardan shaft with new screws -arrow- on the transfer gear. => Initial tightening: 30 Nm (22 ftlb.) => Final tightening: 90 angular °
