Symptom
Crackling noises in the B-pillar area.
Causes and remedial action
Cause
Crackling noises between tightening strip/slide and main folding top bow while driving.
Remedial action
If a complaint is made in relation to vehicles manufactured before the date of introduction October 2007, the following steps must be completed:
Perform a visual inspection of the main folding top bow at the left and right.
Stick felt strips on the main folding top bow at the left and right.

Reworking hood frame
1. Move hood to service position.

1.1. Switch on ignition.
1.2. Unlock hood and raise hood compartment lid to its top position.
1.3. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
2. Pull out tightening strip -1- slightly -arrow A- and attach at the top to the cross strut of the main folding top bow -2- ( -arrow B- ).

3. Perform a visual inspection of the main folding top bow at the left and right.
3.1. Check the main folding top bow -1- to see if there is already some Teflon tape -2- affixed close to the tightening strip.

3.1.1. If there is no Teflon tape affixed: Carry out Remedial action 2.
3.1.2. If there is Teflon tape affixed: Carry out Remedial action 1.

4. Pull Teflon tape -1- off the main folding top bow -2- under the cross strut -arrow-.

Information
The bonding surfaces must be clean and free of grease.
5. Clean main folding top bow -1- in the marked area on the inside and outside with isopropanol.

Information
The felt strip must be positioned according to the specified measurements (left and right).

6. Affix felt strip -1- to the main folding top bow -2- under the cross strut ensuring that there are no air bubbles -arrows- and press it on.
Fold the felt strip over the cross strut and press it on firmly. Don't worry if slight creases form in the felt strip.

7. Disengage tightening strip -1- ( -arrow- ).

8. End hood service position.
8.1. Switch on ignition and move hood electrically to its original position.
8.2. Switch off ignition.
