Parking Brake Actuator: Service and Repair

Removing parking-brake lever

The parking-brake lever -1- is supplied as a spare part, complete with bracket, cover -2- and switch -3- (for warning light indicating that the parking brake is on).





Parking-brake lever

1. Disengage parking-brake cable -5- at the parking-brake lever. This releases the parking-brake lever -1-.
Pull off plug on switch -3-.

2. Remove parking-brake lever and mounting saddle assembly -1- after first removing the fastening nuts -4-.

Installing parking-brake lever

1. Install parking-brake lever -1-. Use new fastening nuts -4- and tighten them to 23 Nm (17 ftlb.).

2. Engage brake cable -5-. Connect plug to switch -3-.
3. Remove lock pin on mounting saddle if necessary (only fitted on new parking-brake levers/used to prevent automatic readjustment of the parking-brake cable).
4. Tighten and loosen the parking-brake lever a number of times (due to automatic readjustment of the parking-brake cable). Then check the free play of the parking-brake lever. If there is too much free play, adjust the parking-brake shoes.

Subsequent work after installing parking-brake lever

1. Install centre console ( -1- ) -> 681719 Removing and installing centre console 681719 Removing and installing centre console.

2. Fit rear wheels if necessary (if the parking-brake shoes were adjusted) -> 440519 Removing and installing wheel Removal and Replacement.
