Valve Cover: Service and Repair

Technical values





Preliminary work

1. Remove the engine.

2. Remove heat shield for ignition coils.
-> 261219 Removing and installing heat shield.

3. Remove bar ignition modules.
3.1. Detach cable plugs for bar ignition modules -1- , solenoid hydraulic valve for valve lift adjustment -3- and hall sender -4-.
3.2. Unscrew two cheese head bolts (internal Torx T40, M6 x 12) -2- for the ground cables for the bar ignition modules.
3.3. Unscrew countersunk screw (internal Torx T30, M6 x 16) and pull the bar ignition modules out of the spark-plug recess.

NOTICE

Dirt and contamination

- Risk of damage to units or components

-> Protect components from dirt and contamination.
-> Clean or replace dirty components.

1. Unscrew 20 countersunk screws (internal Torx (T30), M6 x 25) on each cylinder bank and remove cover.

2. Remove moulded seal and clean it carefully using a clean, lint-free cloth.
2.1. Re-use the seal if there are no visible and perceptible signs of damage (cracks, fractures).
3. Clean sealing faces on the cylinder head and cover. To do this, soak a clean, lint-free cloth in acetone or solvent naphtha and wipe off the surfaces.
3.1. Allow components to dry off sufficiently.

-> Clean or replace dirty components.

1. Fit seal -1- into the cylinder head cover.

2. Fit cover on cylinder head using 20 countersunk screws (internal Torx (T30), M6 x 25).
3. Fit and tighten screws according to the specified tightening sequence -1 to 20-.

=> Tightening torque: 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Install bar ignition modules. Fit and tighten countersunk screws (internal Torx T30, M6 x 16).
-> 282020 Removing and installing ignition coils Service and Repair.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
2. Connect cable plugs and ground cables.
2.1. Secure two ground cables to the cylinder head cover with internal Torx screws (T40).
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
2.2. Attach cable plugs for bar ignition modules, hall sender and solenoid hydraulic valve for valve lift adjustment.
3. Fit heat shield for ignition coils.
-> 261220 Removing and installing upper part of heat shield.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
4. Install the engine.
-> 100119 Removing and installing engine 100119 Removing and installing engine.
