Technical values

Preliminary work

1. Remove engine compartment lid. -> 557819 Removing and installing engine compartment lid - section on "Removing" 557819 Removing and Installing Engine Compartment Lid

Removal

Removing resonance tube

Component overview

Component overview of intake manifold (view of 2.9-litre engine)

1. Remove rubber sleeve on air intake system.
1.1. Loosen screw-type clamps -2- on rubber sleeve -1- and remove rubber sleeve.

Rubber sleeve for air intake system to throttle housing

2. Pull off vacuum line and cable plug on control valves for the resonance tube.
3. Release and pull off cable plug on throttle housing.
4. Pull off positive crankcase ventilation lines -1- and tank vent line -2- on the intake pipe of the resonance tube.

Resonance tube connections

5. Remove clamps -1- on the resonance tube -3-.
5.1. Unscrew countersunk screws (internal Torx screws, micro-self-locking, T30), M6 x 35 -2- and disengage and remove upper parts of clamps.
5.2. Press lower parts of clamps downwards.
5.3. Replace micro-self-locking fastening screws.

Clamps on resonance tube

6. Use a plastic spatula to lift up the rubber sleeves and slide them onto the resonance tube.
7. Guide resonance tube out of the engine compartment.
7.1. Be careful of the vacuum units when guiding the resonance tube out.
8. Clean intake-air distributor and resonance tube at the connection points.
8.1. Do not use harsh cleaning agents.
8.2. Check rubber sleeves for signs of damage and replace if necessary.

Installation

Installing resonance tube

1. To facilitate installation, apply a light coating of silicone spray to the inside of the rubber sleeves.
2. Place lower parts of clamps under the connection points for the resonance tube and intake-air distributor.
3. Position resonance tube between the intake-air distributors.
4. Fit rubber sleeves on both sides.
4.1. Position rubber sleeves at the top between the resonance tube and intake-air distributors with the stop bead.
4.2. To check that the rubber sleeves are seated correctly, pull them through along the contour of the resonance tube.
Important: The stop bead must be seated between the resonance tube and intake-air distributors!
5. Fit clamps -1- on the resonance tube -3-.
5.1. Clamp the lower parts of the clamps in the relevant rubber sleeve groove.
5.2. To do this, pull up the lower parts at the front and rear at the same time until they become seated automatically.
6. Engage the upper parts of the clamps in the connecting hooks using the eyelet and secure with new countersunk screws (internal Torx, micro-self-locking, T30, M6 x 35) -2-.
6.1. If necessary, use longer M6 screws at first to pull the clamps together. Then unscrew these again and screw in the correct screws.
6.2. Check again that the clamps and resonance tube are seated correctly and then tighten the screws.
=> Tightening torque: 4.5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)

Clamps on resonance tube

7. Connect cable plug on the throttle housing.
8. Install rubber sleeve for air intake system.
8.1. Loosen screw-type clamps -2- on rubber sleeve -1- and remove rubber sleeve.
