Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair


WM 137419 Removing and installing crankshaft sealing ring for pulley/vibration balancer

Preliminary work

1. Remove vibration balancer -> 137619 Removing and installing pulley/vibration balancer - section on "Removing" Service and Repair.

1. Unscrew the four fastening screws and remove the cover with the sealing ring.

2. Clean the sealing surface of the sheetmetal cover.

Information

Sealing rings become damaged as a result of improper fitting. Do not oil sealing rings on the running surface and do not pull sealing rings off the plastic sleeve.

Information

- If the joint flange on the pulley or the surface on the crankshaft stub is slightly rusted, polish the rust off with a special polishing pad.

- If there is bad corrosion or deep grooves, replace these components.

1. Place seal with plastic sleeve across crankshaft.

2. Tighten the two upper fastening screws and then the lower fastening screws by hand. Then tighten the screws crosswise to the specified torque (aluminium screws).

3. Pull plastic sleeve straight off the joint flange.

1. Install vibration balancer -> 137619 Removing and installing pulley/vibration balancer - section on "Installing" Service and Repair.
