Symptom
Squeaking noises from around the spoiler drive when extending and/or retracting the rear spoiler.
Causes and remedial action
Cause
Squeaking noises can occur when extending and/or retracting the rear spoiler as a result of dust or if the upper part of the spoiler is too tight.
Remedial action
Clean the spoiler guides, seal bores using strips of adhesive tape and loosen the spoiler drive.

Information
Do not grease or lubricate the spoiler drive guides. This can cause squeaking noises.
1. Extend the rear spoiler.
1.1. Switch on ignition.
1.2. Extend the rear spoiler manually as far as the top end position using the rocker switch in the passenger compartment.
1.3. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
2. Clean the spoiler drive.
Cleaning spoiler guide
2.1. Clean the spoiler guides at the left and right -arrows- using a steam jet cleaner.
Reworking spoiler drive
1. Remove the spoiler drive.
Removing fan with fan housing
1.1. Disconnect plug connections for fan and engine compartment lighting on the fan housing -inset-.
1.2. Unscrew fastening screws -1- and remove fan with fan housing -2-.
1.3. Pull air guide -1- off the rear lid.

1.4. Unscrew fastening screws -1-.
Loosening spoiler drive
1.5. Fold spoiler drive -2- down out of the rear lid -3- ( -arrows- ).
2. Rework the spoiler drive.
2.1. Thoroughly clean the spoiler drive -1- in the marked area -A- with isopropanol.
Sticking on strips of adhesive tape
2.2. Pull off backing sheet and stick strips of adhesive tape -2- over the bores on the spoiler drive -1-.
3. Install filler piece.

Only for USA vehicles without microswitch.
Installing filler piece
3.1. Slide the filler piece -1- as far as it will go into the spoiler drive -2- ( -arrow- ).
4. Install the spoiler drive.
4.1. Fold the spoiler drive -2- up -arrows- and position it on the rear lid -3-.
Securing spoiler drive
4.2. Screw in fastening screws -1- on the spoiler drive -2-. => Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
4.3. Position the air guide -1- on the rear lid and insert it.

4.4. Fit fan with fan housing -2- and secure with the fastening screws -1-. => Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

4.5. Connect connectors for fan and engine compartment lighting on the fan housing -inset-.
Loosening spoiler drive
1. Remove upper part of spoiler.

1.1. Press out plastic stopper -1- ( -arrow A- ).
1.2. Unscrew clamping screw -2- by about 2 to 3 turns and remove upper part of spoiler -3- in an upward direction -arrow B-.
2. Loosen the spoiler drive.

2.1. Loosen fastening screws -1- on the spoiler drive -2- at the left and right.
2.2. Guide rear spoiler in fully and screw in the fastening screws -1- at the left and right. => Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
2.3. Check that the rear spoiler operates smoothly and does not make noise by operating it manually and loosen it again if necessary.
3. Install upper part of spoiler.
Installing upper part of spoiler
3.1. Position upper part of spoiler -1- on the lower part of the spoiler -2- ( -arrow- ) until the locking lugs engage securely.
3.2. Tighten clamping screws -2- on upper part of spoiler -3-. => Tightening torque: 3.0 Nm (2.0 ftlb.)+/-1.5 Nm (1.0 ftlb.)

3.3. Press in plastic stopper -1- ( -arrow- ).
