Preliminary work

CAUTION

Hot components

- Risk of burns

-> Let hot components cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.

1. Remove engine.
=> 100119 Removing and installing engine.
2. Remove rear silencer.
=> 263319 Removing and installing rear silencer - Turbo.
3. Remove turbocharger.
=> 213019 Removing and installing turbocharger.
4. Remove turbocharger holder.
4.1. Unscrew two Torx screws (M8 x 35) and remove the holder.
5. Remove heat shield for ignition coils.
=> 261219 Removing and installing heat shield - Turbo.
6. Remove ignition coils. In each case, unscrew one internal Torx (T30) countersunk screw (M6 x 16) and pull ignition coils out of the spark-plug recess.
=> 282019 Removing and installing ignition rod module.

-> Protect components from dirt and contamination.
-> Clean or replace dirty components.

1. Unscrew 20 internal Torx (T30) countersunk screws (M6 x 25) in each case and remove cover.

2. Remove moulded seal and clean it carefully using a clean, lint-free cloth.
3. Clean sealing faces on the cylinder head and cover. To do this, soak a clean, lint-free cloth in acetone or solvent naphtha and wipe off the surfaces.
3.1. Allow components to dry off sufficiently.

-> Clean or replace dirty components.

1. Fit seal -1- into the cylinder head cover.

2. Fit cover on cylinder head using 20 internal Torx (T30) countersunk screws (M6 x 25).
3. Fit and tighten screws according to the specified tightening sequence -1 to 20-.

=> Tightening torque: 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Fit ignition coils. Fit and tighten one internal Torx (T30) countersunk screw (M6 x 16) on each.
=> 282019 Removing and installing ignition rod module.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
2. Fit heat shield for ignition coils.
=> 261219 Removing and installing heat shield - Turbo.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
3. Fit exhaust manifolds with a new seal. Insert and tighten nine screws (M8 x 21) on each.
=> 261019 Removing and installing exhaust manifold with catalytic converter.
=> Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
4. Fit holder for rear silencer.
4.1. Fit and tighten four Torx screws (M8 x 20).
=> Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
5. Install rear silencer.
=> 263319 Removing and installing rear silencer.
6. Install the engine.
=> 100119 Removing and installing engine.
