Preliminary work

Preliminary work for 997 Turbo/GT2

1. Remove pressure pipe.
-> 214119 Removing and installing pressure pipe.
2. Remove air cleaner housing.
-> 242519 Removing and installing air cleaner housing.
3. Remove rear apron.
-> 635519 Removing and installing rear apron.
4. Remove rear silencer.
-> 263319 Removing and installing rear silencer.

NOTICE

Incorrect handling of tools

- Risk of damage to the body

-> Only use tools approved by Porsche.
-> Always ensure that the tool is seated correctly.
-> Protect the body and interior of the vehicle from damage with protective covers.
-> Cover delicate components with cardboard or sheetmetal panels.

Always fit crankshaft sealing ring dry and without grease.

Information

- Work on delicate engine parts must be carried out conscientiously and precisely.

- Use a suitable tray.

- Absolute cleanliness is essential.

1. Remove sealing ring.
1.1. Fit a 2-mm drill bit in a battery-powered screwdriver or small drill. Grease drill bit so that any chips produced will stick.
1.2. Drill a hole at the front of the sealing ring.

1.3. Impact puller Nr.168-1 -1- with the screw tip must then be screwed into the bore hole and the sealing ring -2- can be pulled out carefully.

CAUTION

Crankshaft flange not cleaned correctly

- Risk of leaks (loss of engine oil)
- Risk of corrosion

-> Never use an abrasive or polishing cloth or brushes with metal bristles on the crankshaft flange.
-> Follow cleaning instructions.
-> Remove corroded spots using a metal-polishing pad only (for example Never Dull , available in car and motor bike accessory stores). Then, carefully clean the flange and crankcase bore using a clean, lint-free cloth soaked in solvent naphtha or acetone.

2. Clean crankshaft flange and crankcase bore carefully.

Visually inspect the crankshaft flange and crankcase bore for damage.

3. Check crankshaft flange and crankcase bore for damage.
The sealing faces must not be damaged.
3.1. Small burrs can be removed using an oilstone (not on the sealing faces).

Installation

Installing crankshaft sealing ring - Turbo/GT2

CAUTION

Sealing ring not oiled correctly

- Damage to micro-sealing lip
- Leaks

-> Only coat the outer sealing face of the crankshaft sealing ring very lightly with new engine oil.
-> Never oil or grease the micro sealing lip.
-> Never touch the micro sealing lip.

1. Check special tool fitting tool P216d for damage.

NOTICE

Incorrect handling of sealing rings and covers

- Leaks
- Risk of damage to components

-> Use clean tools without burrs.
-> Make sure not to leave any scores or scratches when cleaning.

2. Fit new sealing ring dry.
2.1. Carefully slide sealing ring onto the crankshaft flange.
2.2. Fitting tool P216d => Fitting crankshaft pulley sealing ring must then be secured to the crankshaft flange using the hexagon-head bolt -1-. Pull in sealing ring by turning the hexagon nut -1- clockwise until the tool is in as far as it will go on the crankcase flange.
2.3. Loosen hexagon nut and screw off tool.

3. Install pulley with a new screw.
-> 137619 Removing and installing pulley.
3.1. Fit pulley on the crankshaft flange. Check the position of the dowel pin.
3.2. Counter at the pulley with special tool holding wrench 9548 (steel pulley) or retaining device 9732/1 (aluminium pulley) and tighten the screw using a torque wrench.
=> Tightening torque: 170 Nm (126 ftlb.)
=> Tightening torque: 250 Nm (185 ftlb.)
=> Tightening torque: 170 Nm (126 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

Subsequent work for 997 Turbo/GT2

1. Install rear silencer.
-> 263319 Removing and installing rear silencer.
2. Install rear apron.
-> 635519 Removing and installing rear apron.
3. Install air cleaner housing.
-> 242519 Removing and installing air cleaner housing.
4. Install pressure pipe.
-> 214119 Removing and installing pressure pipe.
