WM 553119 Removing and installing front pneumatic spring

Loosening front pneumatic spring

CAUTION

Incorrect handling of gas-filled shock absorbers

- Gas-filled shock absorbers can burst
- Risk of eye injuries
- Risk of bruising

-> Gas-filled shock absorbers must be in idle state before removal.
-> Open the lid.
-> Secure the lid to prevent it from closing accidentally following removal of the gas-filled shock absorbers.
-> Do not use force to open the gas-filled shock absorbers because of their high internal pressure.

1. Open the front lid.
2. Unfasten the pneumatic spring from the lid and the body.

2.1. Get a second person to hold the front lid to prevent it from closing accidentally.
2.2. Insert a screwdriver -2- between the head of the pneumatic spring and the safety clip -3- ( -A- ).
2.3. Loosen the safety clip -3- by levering the screwdriver -2- up and down -B-.
2.4. The safety clip remains at the head of the pneumatic spring.
2.5. Pull the pneumatic spring -1- off the ball joints -C-.
2.6. Remove the screwdriver.
3. Remove the pneumatic spring -1-.

Securing front pneumatic spring

1. Open the lid.
2. Get a second person to hold the lid to prevent it from closing accidentally.
3. Fit pneumatic spring.

4. Press the pneumatic spring -1- onto the ball pin until the safety clip -3- locks with an audible click.
5. Check that the safety clips -3- have engaged correctly. Repeat the procedure, if necessary.

Function test on pneumatic spring

1. Close and open the lid several times to check that the pneumatic springs are working properly and were fitted correctly.
2. Open the lid completely. The fitted pneumatic spring must hold the lid in its open position.
3. Close the lid.
