Technical values
Preliminary work
1. Move front seat forward.

Removing front three-point belt
Information
Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle. Naturally, some steps also have to be performed on the opposite side of the vehicle as well. These must be carried out as a mirror image of the steps shown.
WARNING
Incorrect handling of seat-belt pretensioner unit
- Triggering of seat-belt pretensioner unit
-> Observe safety regulations for handling seat-belt pretensioner units. -> 690000 Safety regulations for handling airbag and seat-belt pretensioner units

-> After disconnecting the battery, wait 1 minute before disconnecting the seat-belt pretensioner unit.
-> Remove ignition key and disconnect the battery. Route or insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided. -> 2706IN00 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery
-> If removed for an extended period, the seat-belt pretensioner unit must be stored in a safe place.
-> Transport the seat-belt pretensioner unit in such a way that the seat belt can retract safely if it is actuated.
1. Loosen the cover -1- on the seat belt mount.

1.1. Insert a screwdriver in between the cover -1- and seat belt mount -2- from above.
1.2. By pressing -A- and turning -B- at the same time, loosen the cover -1- from the seat belt mount -2- and slide it upwards.
2. Remove seat belt mount -2- from the seat.

NOTICE
Incorrect handling of spring plate on seat belt mount
- The seat belt must be replaced.
-> Only bend the spring plate up as far as required to allow you to push the seat belt mount off the mounting pin.
-> The spring plate must be touching the mounting pin during installation with preload.
2.1. Lift the spring plate -3- off the mounting pin -4- ( -C- ).
2.2. Slide the seat belt mount -2- down -D- and pull it off the mounting pin -4-.
3. Unscrew the fastening screw -1- on the top belt lug and remove it -A-.

4. Unscrew fastening screws -2- for the belt guide -1- at the B-pillar.

5. Release electric plug connection -1- on the seat-belt pretensioner -a- and pull it off -A-.

6. Unscrew fastening screws -2 and 3- and remove the seat-belt pretensioner -4- in an upward direction -B-.

Installing front three-point belt
1. Install seat-belt pretensioner.
Information
Always replace the fastening screws on the three-point seat belt. The micro-self-locking screws must not be treated (e.g. greased) or loosened and then screwed on again.
1.1. Insert seat-belt pretensioner -4- ( -B- ) and tighten the lower fastening screw -2- to => Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ftlb.).

1.2. Tighten lower fastening screw -3- to => Tightening torque: 4.5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.).
Information
- When routing the electric wires, ensure that they are not routed through the belt-coiling area.
1.3. Plug in electric plug connection -1- ( -A- ) and close the lock -a-.

Information
- Once the fastening screw has been tightened, the belt lug must level out on its own in a vertical position or in the relevant support direction.
2. Tighten fastening screw -1- for the belt lug on the height adjuster to => Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ftlb.).

- Do not twist the three-point belt when installing!
3. Tighten fastening screws -2- used to secure the belt guide -1- to the B-pillar to => Tightening torque: 4.5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.).

4. Install seat belt mount -2- on the seat.

NOTICE
Incorrect handling of spring plate on seat belt mount
- The seat belt must be replaced.
-> Only bend the spring plate up as far as required to allow you to push the seat belt mount off the mounting pin.
-> The spring plate must be touching the mounting pin during installation with preload.
5. Slide the seat belt mount -2- onto the pin -4- on the seat -B- until the spring plate -3- engages.
6. Slide the cover -1- over the seat belt mount -A- and clip it in -B-.

Subsequent work
1. Install B-pillar trim. -> 706719 Removing and installing B-pillar trim panel - section on "Installing" 706719 Removing and installing B-pillar trim
2. Connect the battery. -> 2X00IN General information on disconnecting the battery Procedures
3. Perform a function test.
- The belt strap must be fully rolled up when the function test is started.
- Move the seat belt height adjustment to the highest position.
- Pull out belt strap completely as far as it will go.
- Roll up the belt strap again slowly. An audible clattering noise can be heard when you do this.
- If the rolling-up process is interrupted, the belt strap cannot be pulled out again (permanent belt blockage).
- The permanent belt blockage function must switch off at least 100 mm before the belt strap is rolled up fully, thereby ensuring that the belt strap can be pulled out again.
