Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
WM 137619 Removing and installing vibration damper (crankshaft pulley)
Tools
Preliminary work
1. Remove radiator frame -> 192019 Removing and installing radiator fan housing (radiator frame) - section on "Removing" Service and Repair.
2. Remove drive belt -> 137819 Removing and installing drive belt - section on "Removing" Service and Repair.

NOTICE
Incorrect handling of tools
- Risk of damage to the body
-> Only use tools approved by Porsche.
-> Always ensure that the tool is seated correctly.
-> Protect the body and interior of the vehicle from damage with protective covers.
-> Cover delicate components with cardboard or sheetmetal panels.
Information
Protect the radiator fins using cardboard or a sheetmetal panel to prevent damage.
Cover wing and peripheral parts to protect them.
2. Fit large torque wrench => Large torque wrench on the central screw or T-piece -2- (large socket, width across flats 27) and loosen central screw for balancer. Do not use the screw again. Use a tubular handle -1- , if necessary. Loosening torque is very high.

Installing vibration damper (crankshaft pulley)
Information
- The tightening specifications for the basic engine are stored centrally. -> 1001IN Tightening torques, tightening sequences, assembly overviews [1][2]Specifications. Tightening torques and assembly instructions for other assemblies (e.g. chassis, electrics, transmission or body) or for peripheral engine equipment can be found in the corresponding documents.

Information
- A feather key is inserted into the crankshaft. When fitting the vibration damper (crankshaft pulley), ensure that the feather key slots into the groove.
- The key must not fall into the engine.
- Vibration damper (crankshaft pulley) and crankshaft stub must be cleaned.
1. Position vibration damper (crankshaft pulley) onto the crankshaft stub. Press the vibration damper slightly towards the engine, while at the same time twisting it until it slips towards the timing-case cover. When doing so, be careful of the feather key => Pulley on crankshaft stub.

2. New central screw must be fitted hand-tight. => Central screw in crankshaft

Cover wing and peripheral parts to protect them.
3. Arm bracket 9679/1 must be inserted into the vibration damper and turned until it locks => Arm bracket in the pulley. Get another worker to use the arm bracket.

4. Using a torque wrench and a suitable socket (width across flats 27), tighten the central screw => Large torque wrench at central screw and only carry out step-by-step torque tightening.

5. After tightening to the specified torque, mark the vibration damper and central screw for the torque-angle tightening using a water-resistant marker. To do this, make an initial mark on the vibration damper and central screw at the same position -1 and 2-. Make a final mark in accordance with the specified torque angle only on the vibration damper -3-.

Carry out the torque-angle tightening procedure so that the mark on the screw is turned from the initial mark on the vibration damper step-by-step (repositioning the tools repeatedly) to the final mark on the vibration damper -arrow-. This concludes the torque-angle tightening procedure.
