Technical values





Preliminary work

1. Drain refrigerant. -> 870317 Draining and filling refrigerant - section on "Draining" Service and Repair
2. Remove right cowl panel cover. -> 664419 Removing and installing cowl panel cover - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

Removing expansion valve

WARNING

Refrigerant

- Danger of freezing

-> Avoid contact with refrigerant.
-> Wear personal protective gear.
-> Observe the safety regulations for working on air-conditioned vehicles and dealing with refrigerant.
-> Observe the safety regulations for extraction and filling systems.
-> Observe the instructions for repairing air conditioning systems and storing spare parts.

Information

The refrigerant connections must be closed off immediately using suitable stoppers once the refrigerant lines have been removed.





Installation position of expansion valve

1. Unscrew inner fastening screw -1- on DME control unit bracket and remove water drip pan -2-.

2. Unscrew the two fastening screws -3- for the refrigerant lines -4- on the expansion valve -5-.

3. Pull the two refrigerant lines -4- out of expansion valve -5- and move them up/down to keep them out of the way.
4. Unscrew the two fastening screws -6- for the expansion valve and remove expansion valve -5-.

Installing expansion valve

Information

- Before the expansion valve is re-installed, the O-rings of the refrigerant lines must be checked for damage and replaced if necessary.

- Wet the O-rings of the refrigerant lines with refrigerant oil.

1. Carefully slide the expansion valve -5- onto the refrigerant lines from the evaporator. Do not tilt.

2. Tighten the two fastening screws -6- on the expansion valve to => Tightening torque: 5.5 Nm (4 ftlb.).
3. Position refrigerant lines -4- on the expansion valve -5- and press into place. Do not tilt.

4. Tighten the two fastening screws -3- for the refrigerant lines on the expansion valve -5- to => Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)+/-1.5 Nm (+/-1 ftlb.).
5. Fit water drip pan -2- and tighten fastening screws -1- to => Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.).

Subsequent work

1. Install right cowl panel cover. -> 664419 Removing and installing cowl panel cover - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
2. Fill in refrigerant. -> 870317 Draining and filling refrigerant - section on "Filling" Service and Repair
