WM 136319 Removing and installing drive plate for torque converter

Tools

Technical values

Preliminary work

1. Remove the transmission -> 373519 Removing and installing transmission - section on "Removing" 373519 Removing and Installing Transmission or, with the engine removed, remove the transmission -> 373527 Removing and mounting transmission - section on "Removing" 373527 Removing and mounting transmission

Removing drive plate for torque converter

1. Mark installation position of the drive plate relative to the crankshaft using a felt-tip pen.

Information

The threaded bore in the oil guide housing is a blind hole.

- The toothed segment must be secured to the oil guide housing using a screw (M12 x 50). -2- This screw ensures that the toothed segment is secured well and prevents damage to the blind hole thread because the thread is the correct length.

- The engagement point of the toothed segment must be facing the crankcase. -1-

Drive plate toothed segment

- Position toothed segment at the bottom two threaded bores of the oil guide housing. => Toothed segment on oil guide housing

2. Block drive plate. To do this, attach toothed segment 95381 to a threaded bore at the bottom of the oil guide housing so that at least one tooth engages with the ring gear. => Toothed segment

3. Remove drive plate. To do this, loosen the 10 fastening screws crosswise. => Drive plate

4. Remove drive plate.
5. If the drive plate is stuck, remove it using an internal puller and a slide hammer.
5.1. To do this, insert internal puller into the middle of the drive plate and tighten it. => Internal puller

5.2. Then screw on the slide hammer and knock off the drive plate. => Slide hammer

Installing drive plate for torque converter

Information

- Clean the crankshaft stub before installing the drive plate (remove rust).

- Use a special metal-polishing pad (e.g. Never Dull) for this.

- Because of the bearing classification, cleaning at the crankshaft flange must be done gently and, if necessary, the bearing classification must be documented on a separate document and kept in the service booklet.

1. Fit drive plate. Fit new screws.
