Preliminary work





Installation position of front three-point belt

1. Remove B-pillar trim. -> 706719 Removing and installing B-pillar trim panel 70671901 Removing and installing upper part of B-pillar trim panel 70671903 Removing and installing lower part of B-pillar trim panel
2. Remove trim panel on the belt fastening point at the front seat.
2.1. Move the seat forward and upward.
2.2. Press a narrow plastic wedge into the front middle of the trim and loosen the catch -2-. Also loosen the catch -1- at the same time by releasing it from underneath with your finger.

2.3. Insert a solid plastic wedge behind the trim -1- from above and release the trim -arrow A-.

2.4. Press off the trim -arrow B-. Reach through the cut-out from the underside and loosen the locking mechanism -3-.

Incorrect handling of seat-belt pretensioner unit

- Triggering of seat-belt pretensioner unit

-> Observe safety regulations for handling seat-belt pretensioner units. -> 690000 Safety regulations for handling airbag and seat-belt pretensioner units
-> Observe disposal regulations for seat-belt pretensioner units. -> 6900AW Disposal of airbag and seat-belt pretensioner units
-> After disconnecting the battery, wait 1 minute before disconnecting the seat-belt pretensioner unit.
-> Remove ignition key and disconnect the battery. Route or insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided. -> 2706IN00 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery
-> If removed for an extended period, the seat-belt pretensioner unit must be stored in a safe place.
-> Transport the seat-belt pretensioner unit in such a way that the seat belt can retract safely if it is actuated.

1. Unlock retaining clip on the seat belt mount using a suitable screwdriver -arrow A-.

2. Push seat belt mount over the retaining pin -arrow B- until the lug under the retaining pin loosens the clip.

3. Remove seat belt mount from the retaining pin -arrow A- and pull out the seat belt -arrow B-.

4. Unscrew the fastening screw -1- on the top belt lug and remove it -arrow A-.

5. Turn the top belt lug -arrow A- and push it downwards behind the retaining bar -arrow B-.





6. Pull out seat-belt buckle -C- with seat belt mount -D- in a downward direction.





7. Release locking mechanism on electric plug connection -arrow a- and disconnect electric connector -1- ( -arrow A- ).

8. Unscrew fastening screw -1- on the belt roller and remove it -arrow A-.

9. Remove belt roller in an upward direction -arrow B-.

Installing front three-point belt

Information

Always replace the fastening screws on the three-point seat belt. The micro-self-locking screws must not be treated (e.g. greased) or loosened and then screwed on again.

- Once the fastening screw has been tightened, the belt lug must level out on its own in a vertical position or in the relevant support direction.





Installation position

1. Position the belt roller -arrow A-.
2. Tighten fastening screw -1- ( -arrow B- ). => Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)

Information

- Do not twist the three-point belt when installing!

3. Slide seat belt mount -A- and belt lock -B- upwards behind the retaining bar.





4. Turn the belt lug -arrow C- and slide it through behind the retaining bar in an upward direction -arrow D-.

- When routing the electric wires, ensure that they are not routed through the belt-coiling area.

5. Secure the belt lug to the height adjustment device with the fastening screw -1- ( -arrow- ). => Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)

- When routing the electric wires, ensure that they are not routed through the belt-coiling area.

6. Plug in electric plug connection -1- ( -arrow A- ) and close the locking mechanism -arrow b-.

7. Press the seat belt mount towards the seat -arrow A- and fit it on the retaining pin.
8. Pull the seat belt mount upwards -arrow B- until the retaining clip locks with an audible click.

Subsequent work

1. Fit trim panel on the belt fastening point at the front seat.

- Guide pins must engage uniformly in the mounts at front and rear.

1.1. Place trim -1- on the seat trim panel and position the guide pins -2-.
1.2. Slide the trim back -arrow A- until the guide pins and locking lugs engage securely.

3. Connect the battery. -> 270655 Replacing battery - section on "Connecting" 270655 Replacing battery
4. Carry out work instruction after disconnecting the battery. -> 90 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery.
5. Perform a function test.
- The belt strap must be fully rolled up when the function test is started.
- Move the seat belt height adjustment to the highest position.
- Pull out belt strap completely as far as it will go.
- Roll up the belt strap again slowly. An audible clattering noise can be heard when you do this.
- If the rolling-up process is interrupted, the belt strap cannot be pulled out again (permanent belt blockage).
- The permanent belt blockage feature must be disabled at least 100 mm before the belt strap is completely rolled up in order to ensure that the belt strap can be pulled out again.
