Control module, internal fault

Fault symptom
Undefinable (different functions may be affected, depending on the internal memory fault and/or program fault).

Conditions.
When the ignition is switched on, the control module program is not the same as that programmed by the supplier.


DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

1. Checking the generation of diagnostic trouble codes
Clear the diagnostic trouble code, drive the car on test and check whether the trouble code is generated afresh.

If the DTC is generated again, continue with point 2.

If the DTC is not generated again, no action necessary.

2. Checking the control module
If the trouble code is recorded, remove the control module and inspect its connectors. Pay particular attention to possible slide-out of pins and sleeves.

Check the control module's ground and power supply connections.

Refit the control module, clear the trouble code and drive the car on test once again. Check whether the DTC is generated again.

If the DTC is generated again, refer to Before Replacing A Control Module.

If the DTC is not generated again, the action taken to rectify the fault was correct, otherwise the fault is of intermittent nature.
