Check Engine Lamp (MIL)
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION, CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL)CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL)--is located in the main instrument display panel and connected to a +15 supply. The lamp is controlled from pin 32 of the control module and tested for 3 seconds when the ignition is switched on.
After the lamp test, flash codes are activated if there are any DTCs stored in the memory.
If an emission-related fault occurs while the car is being driven, the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) will light up. A diagnostic trouble code can then be obtained by using a Scan Tool or with flash codes.
