P1206
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES P1206, P1207
Secondary air injection relay, control module output, no continuity or shorting to ground/batt+
Symptom
The CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) is on.
Condition
In the event of a short circuit or open circuit a diagnostic trouble code will be generated.
Diagnostic Procedure.
1. Connect the Scan Tool.
Ignition switch in the ON position.
Select "ACTIVATE".
Select "SECONDARY AIR RELAY". This command activates the relay at a frequency of 0.5 Hz for 30 seconds.
Listen for the sound of the relay and pump operating.
If the relay clicks, proceed to step 3.
If it does not, continue with step 2.
2. Check the electrical interface of the secondary air injection relay.
Remove the relay.
Check the following three steps:
- Check the resistance of the relay.
Measure the resistance across pins 85 and 86 of the relay.
^ The resistance should be about 85 ohms.
If it is not, fit a new relay.
- Check the power supply.
Connect the test lamp across pin 86 of the relay base and a good ground.
^ The test lamp should light up.
If it does not, check the lead between pin 86 of the relay base and terminal block 159 for continuity/shorting.
- Check the ground connection.
The relay is grounded via pin 26 of the control module.
Connect the test lamp across pins 85 and 86 of the relay base.
Select "ACTIVATE".
Select "SECONDARY AIR RELAY".
^ The test lamp should flash.
If it does not or if it lights up and stays on, check the lead between pin 26 of the control module and pin 85 of the relay base for continuity/shorting.
3. Clear the diagnostic trouble code and drive the car to see whether the DTC is generated again.
If the diagnostic trouble code is generated again, continue at "Procedure Before ECM Replacement". Component Tests
If the trouble code is not generated again the remedial measure taken was correct, otherwise the fault is of intermittent type.
