CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
DTC Detection Conditions:
To accelerate the activation of the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) when warming up the engine, the air injection system pumps secondary air to the exhaust manifold using pressure. The secondary air is supplied by the air pump and is pumped to the exhaust manifold through the air switching valve. The opening and closing movements of the air switching valve are regulated by the Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV).The air pump and air switching valve are monitored by the ECM and are used to detect malfunctions in this system. The ECM monitors the secondary air injection system and detects malfunctions using the pressure sensor located on the air switching valve.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
Monitor Strategy:
Typical Enabling Conditions:
Typical Malfunction Thresholds:
Component Operating Range:
The ECM monitors the pressure in the secondary air passage using the pressure sensor located on the air switching valve in the secondary air injection system.
If there is a defect in the sensor or the sensor circuit, the voltage level deviates from the normal operating range, the ECM interprets this deviation as a malfunction in the pressure sensor circuit and sets a DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT: The pressure condition of the secondary air passage can be checked using a hand-held tester.
a. Connect a hand-held tester to the DLC3.
b. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester ON.
c. Start the engine.
d. On the tester, select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / SECOND AIR VSV / ALL or USER DATA.
NOTE: When selecting USER DATA, select SECONDARY AIR and SECOND AIR VSV on the tester screen by pressing the YES button on the tester.
HINT: When the Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) of the secondary air system is operated, the air pump operates simultaneously.
e. Check that the SECONDARY AIR and SECOND AIR VSV, displayed on the tester, indicate the conditions shown in the table below.
NOTE: This test only allows technicians to operate the VSV for 5 seconds. If the test is repeated, intervals of at least 30 seconds are required between tests.
HINT:
*1: Denotes the signal transmitted by the ECM to operate the air pump.
*2: Denotes the signal transmitted by the ECM to operate the VSV.
