P2440

DTC P2440 SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM SWITCHING VALVE STUCK OPEN BANK 1
DTC P2441 SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM SWITCHING VALVE STUCK CLOSE BANK 1

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

DTC Detection Conditions:

To accelerate the activation of the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) when warming up the engine, the air injection system pumps secondary air to the exhaust manifold using pressure. The secondary air is supplied by the air pump and is pumped to the exhaust manifold through the air switching valve. The opening and closing movements of the air switching valve are regulated by the Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV).The air pump and air switching valve are monitored by the ECM and are used to detect malfunctions in this system. The ECM monitors the secondary air injection system and detects malfunctions using the pressure sensor located on the air switching valve.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

Monitor Strategy:

Typical Enabling Conditions:

Typical Malfunction Thresholds:

The ECM monitors the pressure in the secondary air passage using the pressure sensor located on the air switching valve of the secondary air injection system. The sensor detects the exhaust pressure in the secondary air passage.

If either of the following conditions occurs, the ECM interprets it as a malfunction of the secondary air injection system, and illuminates the MIL and sets a DTC:
- The pulsation signal is transmitted by the pressure sensor despite the ECM signaling the Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) to close the air switching valve.
- The pulsation signal is not transmitted by the sensor despite the ECM signaling the VSV to open the air switching valve.
