CB. Cars with SRS (Airbag)
Important!
Cars equipped with SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be treated with extra care during repairs, in order to avoid the risk of:
1. Personal injuries during the repair process.
2. Damage or faulty function of the SRS.
Work on SRS or components which may affect the SRS system should always be undertaken by an authorized Volvo workshop.
Always read the SRS service manual it in doubt.
Does the car feature SRS?
Cars with SRS can be recognized by the letters SRS embossed on the steering wheel hub.
700 model year 1987-88
For all troubleshooting of the car's electrical/electronic systems, and for electrical welding, the yellow connector for the SRS system must be disconnected, see the diagram. Important! The ignition key must be in position 0 whenever the connector is pulled apart or reconnected.
(On other model years this connector does not need to be disconnected.)
Instrument panel or around the steering column cover
Take care to ensure that the wires are not squeezed, scraped or penetrated by screws when working on the firewall, knee bolster, ignition lock or steering column cover.
Driver's seat, centre console or carpet near driver's seat.
The SRS impact sensor is located under the driver's seat. The sensor's connector should never be disconnected. Never disassemble the sensor.
Steering and front suspension
When working on the steering wheel, steering column or steering gear, certain jobs must be performed exactly as detailed in the SRS service manual. Read the relevant sections! Turning the steering wheel more than 3 revolutions in either direction will damage the contact reel!
Test socket in the fuse box
The empty slot in the electrical distribution box is used as a test socket for SRS diagnosis. This slot is not to be used for a fuse, neither may any accessories whatsoever be connected to this slot.
