GE. Checking Rex-I

GE. Checking Rex-I

GE1

Checking the spark from the ignition coil
- Disconnect the wire from the distributor cover and place it against the engine block.
- Operate the starter motor.

If there is a spark:
^ Check the spark plug, rotor and distributor cover.

If there is no spark:
^ Check the chassis connection to the power stage/ignition coil GE2.

GE2

Checking the chassis connection to the power stage/ignition coil
- Ignition off.
- Release both the connectors on the power stage/ignition coil.
Connect an ohmmeter between B on the 3-pole connector and the engine block (ground).
Connect an ohmmeter between A on the 2-pole connector and the engine block (ground).
The ohmmeter should show approx. 0 ohms in both measurements.

If the value is correct:
^ Checking the voltage supply to the power stage/ignition coil GE3.

If the value differs:
^ Check the wires and chassis connection at the intake manifold for breakage according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring

GE3

Checking the voltage supply to the power stage/ignition coil
- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between A on the 3-pole connector and the engine block (ground).
The voltmeter should show battery voltage.

Check that voltage is still registered even when the starter motor is operated.

If the values is correct:
^ Checking the control signal to the power stage/ignition coil GE4.

If the value differs:
^ Check the wire between A (3-pole) and the ignition lock via fuse 13 for breakage or short circuit to ground according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring

GE4

Checking the control signal to the power stage/ignition coil
Connect a voltmeter between B on the 2-pole connector and the engine block (ground).
- Operate the starter motor.
The voltmeter should show at least 250 mV.

If the value differs:
^ Connect measurement box GE5.

If the value is correct
^ Test with a new power stage/ignition coil

GE5

Connection of measurement box on Rex-I
Connect the measurement box to Rex-I and check the chassis connection according to N3-N4. N. Measurement Box, Signal Description
^ Continue with Checking the voltage supply (30-supply) GE6

GE6

Checking the voltage supply (30-supply)
- Connect the control unit to the measurement box.
- Insert fuse no.1.
- Ignition off.
Connect the voltmeter between #5 and #20 (ground).
The voltmeter should show battery voltage.

If the value is correct:
^ Checking the voltage supply (15-supply) GE7.

If the value differs:
^ Check the wire between the control unit and the battery for breakage according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring

GE7

Checking the voltage supply (15-supply)
- Ignition on.
Connect the voltmeter between #6 and #20 (ground).
The voltmeter should show battery voltage.

Check that voltage is registered even when the starter motor is operated.

If the value is correct:
^ Checking the control signal to the power stage/ignition coil GE8.

If the value differs:
^ Check the wire between the control unit and the ignition lock for breakage according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring

GE8

Checking the control signal to the power stage/ignition coil
Connect a voltmeter between #16 and #20 (ground).
- Operate the starter motor.
The voltmeter should show at least 250 mV.

If the value Is correct:
^ Check the wiring between #16 and B (2-pole) on the power stage/ignition coil for breakage and short circuit to ground according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring

If the value differs:
^ Test with a new control unit
