DTC 2-2-1
EC. Fault code 2-2-1 Regina
* 2-2-1 Lambdasond signal absent or faulty
Conditions for fault code:
The control unit receives information from the lambdasond as to whether the fuel/air mixture is too rich or too lean. The control unit's lambda control circuit compensates for this by either enriching or diluting the fuel/air ratio. If the control unit senses high or low voltage from the lambdasond for more than 3 minutes under constant load, for example during idling, the fault code is set.
The Check Engine lamp lights up.
Causes of faults:
Breakage, short circuit to ground or voltage in wires to the lambdasond
Contact resistance in connections to pre-heater
No voltage supply to the lambdasond
Breakage, short circuit to ground or voltage in lambdasond
Fault symptom:
High fuel consumption
REGINA #24 Oxygen sensor signal out of range
Conditions for fault message:
If the voltage difference between high and low signal has been less than 0.3 V for longer than 10 seconds, a fault message is stored. Measurement does not take place if engine speed exceeds 3000 rpm, if the idle switch is on or if the engine temperature is less than 70°C (158°F).
Cause of fault:
Breakage, short circuit to ground or voltage in the wiring leading to the lambdasond.
Connection resistance in contact with pre-heater.
No voltage supply to the lambdasond.
Breakage, short circuit to ground or voltage in the wiring leading to the lambdasond.
Fault symptom:
High fuel consumption
EC1
Checking the signal from the lambdasond
- Start the engine.
Connect a voltmeter between connector 1 (1-pole connector on the firewall) and ground
The voltmeter reading should vary between 0.1 V and 1.2 V.
1. If the voltmeter shows a satisfactory value:
Intermittent fault.
^ Check the connectors for signs of loose connection according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring
2. If the voltmeter shows a constantly low value:
^ Checking of lambdasond function EC2.
3. If the voltmeter constantly shows approx. 1.2 V:
^ Check of signal wiring EC5.
4. If the voltmeter shows a constantly high value above 1.4 V or if it varies with a peak value higher than 1.4 V:
^ Check of chassis connector voltage drop EC6.
EC2
Checking of lambdasond function
- Engine running.
- Disconnect the 1-pole connector.
Connect a voltmeter between the 1-pole contact (against the sond) and ground.
The voltmeter should after a while show approx. 1.2 V.
If the value is OK:
^ Check the wiring between the connector and the control unit #24 for signs of short circuit to ground according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring
If the voltmeter still shows a low value:
^ Checking of lambdasond voltage supply EC3
EC3
Checking of lambdasond voltage supply
- Start the engine.
Connect a voltmeter between connector 2 (2-pole connector) and ground.
The voltmeter should show battery voltage.
If the value is OK:
^ Check of chassis connection EC4.
If the voltmeter shows approx. 0 V:
^ Check the wiring between fuse 11 and the connector for signs of a break according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring
EC4
Check of chassis connection.
- Engine switched on.
- Connect together the 2-pole connector.
Attach a voltmeter between connections 1 and 2 in the connector.
The voltmeter should show battery voltage.
If the value is OK:
^ Test with a new lambdasond.
If the voltmeter shows a different value:
^ Check for breaks in the wiring to the chassis connector and check connector resistance at chassis connection according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring
EC5
Check of signal wiring
Check the wiring between the connector and control unit #24 for signs of breakage according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring
If the wiring is OK:
^ Test with a new lambdasond.
If the wiring is damaged:
^ Repair or replace the wiring leading to control unit #24
EC6
Check of chassis connector voltage drop
- Engine running.
Connect a voltmeter between connector 1 (2-pole connector) and ground.
The voltmeter should show approx 0 V.
Switch on the lights.
The voltmeter should still show approx. 0 V.
If a different value:
^ Check the wiring leading to the chassis connector for signs of breakage and check connector resistance at the chassis connector according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring
