DTC 2-2-3

EM. Fault code 2-2-3 Regina

2-2-3 Idling control valve signal absent or faulty

Conditions for fault code:
By measuring the valve's current consumption the control unit can determine it the valve operates within a normal range.
If connection 33 is short circuited to ground the current consumption will be too high and the control unit shuts the valve. If current consumption is below 0.12 A the control unit considers this a sign of breakage in the circuit.
Fault code 2-2-3 is set in both cases.

Causes of faults.
Break or short circuit to ground in the circuit or in the idle valve.

Fault symptoms:
Engine does not start or is difficult to start
Low idle speed

REGINA #33 CIS valve-pulse missing

Conditions for fault code:
Measurement of the signal to the idle valve is made at 300 ms. If voltage does not exceed approx. 2.5 V during this time, the fault code is stored.

Causes of faults and fault symptoms:
See above.

EM1

Checking of voltage supply
- Disconnect the idle valve.
- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between 1 on the connector and ground.
The voltmeter should show battery voltage.

If the value is OK:
^ Checking of resistance against ground in signal wire EM2.

If no voltage:
^ Check the voltage supply wire of the idle valve for signs of breakage.

EM2

Checking of resistance against ground in signal wire
- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter between connection 3 on the connector and ground.
The ohmmeter should show infinite resistance

If the value Is OK:
^ Checking resistance of idle valve EM3.

If the value differs:
^ Check the wire to the control unit for signs of short circuit to ground according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring

EM3

Checking resistance of idle valve
- Ignition off.
Connect an ohmmeter between 1 and 3 on the idle valve
The ohmmeter should show approx. 4 ohms.

If the value is OK:
^ Connection of measurement box EM4.

If the value differs:
^ Test with a new idle valve.

EM4

Connection of measurement box
Connect the measurement box to Regina and check the chassis connections according to N1-N2. N. Measurement Box, Signal Description
^ Continue with Checking of signal to idle valve EM5.

EM5

Checking of signal to idle valve.
- Connect the control unit to the measurement box.
- Connect the idle valve.
- Insert fuse no.1.
- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between #33 and #5 (ground).
The voltmeter should show battery voltage.

If the value differs:
- Check the wire between #33 and the valve for signs of breakage according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring

- Start the engine and run at idle speed.
The voltage should drop somewhat to approx 11 V.

If both values are OK:
Intermittent fault.
^ Check the connectors for loose connections according to CD. CD. Checking of Wiring

If voltage does not drop:
^ Test with a new control unit.
