1-3-1 Engine speed signal from DI system absent on starting



Conditions for DTCs:
When starting, the ignition control module sends parallel engine speed signals to #1 and #28 on the fuel control module. The DTC is logged if the fuel control module detects an engine speed signal at #28 but not at #1.

Causes of fault:
Breaks or grounding.

Fault symptoms:
The engine will not start.

Connecting the test box
- Connect the test box to MFI and check the GND points in accordance with P1-P2. P. Test Box, Signal Description
^ Continue with Checking the engine speed signal wiring EE2.

Checking the engine speed signal wiring
Connect an ohmmeter between #1 and #5.
The ohmmeter should read high resistance.

If the reading is OK:
^ Check the signal from DI EE3

If the reading is 0 ohms:
^ Check the wiring between MFI #1 and DI #17 for grounding in accordance with NA3. NA. Checking the Wiring

If the reading is infinite resistance:
^ Check the wiring between MFI #1 and DI #17 for breaks in accordance with NA2. NA. Checking the Wiring

Checking the signal from DI
- Install fuse 1 (or 31).
Connect a voltmeter between #1 and #5 (GND).
- Operate the starter motor.
The voltmeter should read more than 5 V.

If this value Is OK:
^ The fault is in the control module connector. Check the connections for loose contacts in accordance with NA5. NA. Checking the Wiring

If the reading deviates:
^ Check the wiring connections between MFI #1 and DI #17 for contact resistance in accordance with NA6. NA. Checking the Wiring
