DTC 2-2-4
FF. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 2-2-4 DI EZ 116 K
2-2-4 Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor signal absent or faulty
DTC conditions:
It the signal from the ECT sensor corresponds to a temperature below -40°C (-40°F) or above 120°C (248°F) the DTC is logged.
The control module assumes that engine temperature is approx. 90°C (1 940 F) (limp-home mode) so that the car can be driven.
Causes of fault:
Break or grounding in the wiring.
Contact resistance in the connections.
Poor signal GND connection.
Break or grounding in the ECT sensor.
Fault symptoms:
Normally no fault symptoms.
FF1
Resetting the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCS)
- Read and delete the DTCs.
- Start the engine and run it for about one 1 minute.
If the DTC recurs
^ check the power supply FF2.
If the DTC does not recur
Intermittent fault
^ Check the ECT sensor connections and wiring for loose contacts in accordance with NA5 and clean the ECT sensor connector in accordance with NA7. NA. Checking the Wiring
FF2
Checking the power supply
- Ignition on.
- Disconnect the sensor.
Connect a voltmeter between terminal 2 in the connector and GND.
The voltmeter should read approx. 5 V.
If this value is OK
^ check the sensor resistance FF3.
If the reading is incorrect
^ connect the test box FF4.
FF3
Checking the sensor resistance
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect the sensor.
Connect an ohmmeter between terminal 2 on the sensor and GND.
The ohmmeter should have a reading which corresponds to the graph.
If this value is OK
^ connect the test box FF4.
If the reading is incorrect
^ try using a new sensor.
FF4
Connecting the test box
Connect the test box to DI and check the GND point in accordance with P3-P4. P. Test Box, Signal Description
^ Continue with Checking the resistance to GND FF5.
FF5
Checking the resistance to GND
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect the sensor.
Connect an ohmmeter between #2 and #20 (GND).
The ohmmeter should read infinite resistance
It this value is OK
^ check the resistance of the sensor and the wiring FF6.
If the reading is Incorrect
^ check the wiring for grounding in accordance with NA3. NA. Checking the Wiring
FF6
Checking the resistance of the sensor and the wiring
- Ignition off.
- Connect the sensor.
Connect an ohmmeter between #2 and #20 (GND).
The ohmmeter should have a reading which corresponds to the graph.
If this value is OK
^ check the signal to the sensor FF7.
If the reading is incorrect
^ check the wiring between #2 and the sensor for breaks or contact resistance in accordance with NA2 and NA6. NA. Checking the Wiring
FF7
Checking the signal to the sensor
- Connect the control module to the test box.
- Install fuse 1 (or 31).
- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between #2 and #20 (GND).
The voltmeter should have a reading which corresponds to the graph.
If the reading is OK
Intermittent fault.
^ Check the connections for loose contacts In accordance with NA5 and clean the ECT sensor connector in accordance with NA7. NA. Checking the Wiring
If the reading is incorrect
^ check the wiring and connections for contact resistance in accordance with NA6 and clean the ECT sensor connector in accordance with NA7. NA. Checking the Wiring
